Alex sat in his college class, his notes labeled "Time & Space and how
they relate." This class was so boring... He couldn't stand another second
of it. He watched the clock on the wall above the board. Another five seconds
had gone by... Incredibly slow. He stared daydreaming, and his thoughts again
eventually came back to time and space, and the monotone droning of the
professor's voice. Three minutes... Great. Another half an hour to kill. How
did he ever get through this class before? If only he had some kind of
fast-forward remote. That would be nice... And again he had started daydreaming.
By the time class had ended, he had a complete sketch, labeled, of a
"universal remote", as he called it. Somehow it looked familiar. So did his notes.
Then again, his notes from that class always looked the same. Same theories, same
boring professor, same boring scientists. Did he care? Not in the slightest.
He threw the sketch away and put the notes in his bag. He walked home, past all
the cars the other students drove. Alex preferred to walk anyway. He got home,
set his bag down, and proceeded to his room and watched T.V. Why did that episode
seem familiar? Well, this station ran reruns on Tuesdays anyway. Ugh. The beginning
of the week. Alex hated Tuesdays. Glad this one was over.
Alex's mom had come home. She always went shopping on Tuesdays. Alex
walked downstairs to the garage and helped her carry in the groceries. He looked
inside one of the bags.
"Mom?"
"Yes dear?"
"I thought you bought these yesterday." Alex held up a box of taquitos
for his mother to see.
"No, why? You'd been begging for them for weeks, remember?"
Huh. Okay, this day was getting strange. Alex heated half the bag in
the microwave and went back upstairs to "study". He again clicked the power
button for his T.V. Same program as before. Alex could have sworn he'd seen
that same episode before. But how? It was a new one. This was a very strange
day. He decided to finish his taquitos and get to bed.
Alex was in sociology class, bored as usual. Next class was the one
he hated most. Same theories, same boring professor, same dull scientists.
Oh well. At least he had a five minute break to look forward to beforehand.
"Time & Space and how they relate." Alex could have sworn he
did the same paper before. But then again, all of his papers were the same.
He started to daydream, and by the time class ended he had sketched a labeled
universal remote. He stepped into the hall and threw the paper away. He was
halfway out of the school when he stopped, turned around, and stared at the
trash can. It was impossible. He took his notes out of his bag and looked
at them again. These can't have been... He turned on the spot, ran to the
office window, and stared at the calendar. It was Tuesday.
