This story is written as a companion fic to my other story, Defining Moments, though both can be read as standalones. Defining Moments is focused more on KurtKarofsky friendship/bonding, while this fic is focused almost entirely on Klaine.
Hopefully, everyone enjoys! This is set directly after Defining Moments, and in canon is set in the episode The Sue Sylvester Shuffle.
I do not own Glee.
Kurt and Blaine make their way back towards the bleachers, their hands held together tightly at their side. There's a few glances; that telltale sign that this is not Dalton. That these people won't just accept them.
But it's Blaine and Kurt, and nobody stops them being who they are. Because it's like Blaine always says, courage.
They find their seat with Carol, who smiles at them warmly just as the smoke begins billowing across the field. The half-time performance is beginning. Kurt is a little disappointed to see Karofsky isn't out there, especially after their talk. But he's not a fool; one talk won't change Karofsky. There's still no place for him here.
His eyes scan the bleachers until they rest on the burly footballer. He's watching the glee clubbers and his other teammates sing their hearts out on the field, and every now and then he casts a glance over his shoulder. And for what might be the first time since Kurt saw him, the singer sees something in the other boy's face he never has before; happiness. Pure, unadulterated joy. Because maybe, just maybe, something has shifted inside Karofsky. Something that will make him a better person. For good, now.
But Kurt's not a fool.
After the performance is over, Blaine and Kurt congratulate the Glee club before heading out to Blaine's car. They arrived together but Kurt is staying the weekend at home so he's not leaving with the other Warbler.
Blaine has a strange look on his face, like he's halfway between exploding and melting, and Kurt can't help but wonder why.
"Spit it out, then," he says, nudging his boyfriend's shoulder gently.
"Idon'twantyoutoleaveDalton," Blaine exclaims all at once, and it takes Kurt a good while to decipher the sentence that just isn't quite a sentence. When he finally makes sense of it, he frowns.
"Leave? Why would I leave? I only just transferred!"
"You made good with the neanderthal. And we both know you miss McKinley."
Kurt pauses, struggling for the proper words. A grin comes onto his face and he squeezes Blaine's hand. "There's a lot more wrong with this school than just Karofsky, and something tells me tonight isn't shifting any horizons. And besides, I can think of a few awfully compelling reasons to stay at Dalton."
Blaine perks up at that, but Kurt isn't done just yet. "The coffee, for example," he says with a cheeky tone.
"Oh, the coffee? That's what's keeping you there?" Blaine says with a wide grin. "Well, in that case, I promise to hand deliver you coffee every morning, just in case you forget the wonders of Dalton's cappuccino's."
Kurt grins, and Blaine can't help it any longer, he grabs Kurt's jacket and tugs the other boy into a kiss. Because they both know it's not the coffee keeping Kurt at Dalton. And Kurt's surprised Blaine was ever worried he'd leave.
Because the ex-New Directions singer knows that Blaine - and by extension, Dalton - is something he could never leave behind.
Neither of them even flinch as someone shouts, "Get a room, fags." across the parking lot. They just keep their lips together, blocking out the world.
All that matters is that they hold onto each other, because the rest of the world could rise up against them and never be more than a whisper so long as they're together.
As he gives Blaine one last kiss goodbye, Kurt can't help his next whimsical wish; that one day, someday, Karofsky finds someone as good for him as Blaine is for Kurt.
