A/N: This was originally my first fan fiction ever written, but I've decided to rewrite it because it lacks effort and detail. Basically it needs a lot of work and editing, so if you've read this already, know that it's improved ; hopefully.
**Disclaimer : I don't own Divergent, Veronica Roth does.
Prologue: Tris POV
I've spent the last two weeks settling into our new house in Chicago after a long move from Florida. My father says it's healthy to have a change in life so that's why he accepted the job offer waiting all the way out here in Illinois. In my perspective, I think he just got tired of his life in Florida, but being him selfless self, he tries not to show it. My mother seems a bit stressed with everything changing but she's accepting and adapting a lot quicker than I am. Let's not even mention my older brother Caleb who was supporting my father's idea since day one. I always wonder how someone so selfless can be so greedy at the same time. I've always secretly been jealous of how easily everything comes to him. The good grades, lots of friends, the attractiveness. Worst of all is that he brags about it, without making it too obvious. Always pointing me out, making me the bad one. Now I have none of those things, but school starts in a couple days, and I'm positive things will be different than the last 9 years of school. Junior year here I come...
Present time:
I'm woken up from my sleep by my human alarm clock known as my brother: Caleb,
"Beatrice, wake up! It's quarter to seven and if you don't get your lazy self out of bed, you'll miss your ride to school!" He screams through the door.
"I'm up!" I scream back, " you can stop now!"
"Annoying bitch..." I mutter to myself. He can be a pain in the butt most of the time.
I force myself to get out of the warmth of my bed to the icy coldness that is my room. My father keeps the air conditioner on all the time. Says it supposed to encourage us to be more active and not sit around watching tv all day.
I decide not to wash my hair in the morning considering I washed my hair the night before and left it in a braid over night. My shower is short but helpful. I like to use cold water in the mornings because it wakes me up.
About 15 minutes later, I'm done. I'm wearing a lacy black t shirt with a gray tank top under, black skinny jeans (high waisted to give an illusion of curves and a butt to my 12 year old looking boyish body shape) and black vans. I don't usually wear make up, but I wear some pencil liner on my water line, really pale pink eyeshadow, mascara that make my blue-grayish eyes look bold. It distracts from my big nose which I hate.
A little bit of Baby Lips tinted lip moisturizer and that's it. My face has only a small amount of acne so nothing else is needed. I undo the braid which gives me some loose waves in the blonde mop of hair I have that is at the length of my belly button area. A couple sprits of sea salt spray for long last and texture and I'm done. Before heading downstairs, I grab my grey Hollister hoodie, my backpack, and my keys.
"Good morni-" I start before being cut off by my obviously annoyed father.
"Beatrice Prior, what are you wearing?! Where did you even get those clothes?" He yells at me in a stern voice.
"Dad, first of all, I went shopping this weekend, in case you didn't notice. Second of all, I'm going to a new school, and like you said, it's healthy to have a change every once in a while. So this is a new style. I'm sorry if you don't like it, but you can't decide what I wear anymore. I'm 16 now, I can make my own decisions," something crosses his face and before he opens his mouth to say something I throw in "just like Caleb."
He automatically closes his mouth and gestures me to sit for breakfast.
"You guys nervous for today?" My mother asks handing me a plate with a bagel and a glass of orange juice.
"Not really, actually kind of excited." My brother answers, apparently for both of us because he then says, "Beatrice, mind hurrying up a bit, I don't wanna be late on our first day."
"Don't worry Caleb, I'm not hungry anymore." Honestly I just don't want to sit here any longer with both my parents starring at me take my time to eat when I have to go to school.
I brush my teeth quickly and then say bye to my parents.
"Best of luck to the both of you," my mother says to us before we leave. We get into his dark blue Toyota and head to Divergent Academy.
A/N: So... What did ya think? Better or ruined it? Let me know in the reviews if something went wrong or if I missed something. The story will not change because of editing, the plot stays the same, just might be longer and more chapters. It's still short, but it's the introduction, give me some credit.
