Summary: Teen Maki reflects about her feelings for Daigo.
When you sleep
I could make you happy, i could make you love me
I could disappear completely, I could be your love song
I could longo gone, I could be a ghost, in your eardrum
When you sleep, will it be with me?
When you sleep-Mary Lambert
It had been two years since the incident in the digiworld where Maki and Daigo had lost their digimon partners in a battle against the dark masters. Neither of the two teenagers could forget what they had seen there, the sacrifice of Megadramon and then, Bearmon, who had become one of the Harmonious Ones.
And then, not remembering when it had begun, at night, Daigo would sometimes appeared in Maki's bedroom window or vice versa and the two would sleep side by side, looking for comfort from the loss of their partners and the separation of the group of the original digidestined. They had been always very close to each other in the group and now, more than ever, they wanted to be there for each other.
Maki sighed, turning to the other side on her bed and stared into Daigo's serene face, unlike the haunted face he'd had when he showed there earlier, now he looked relaxed and happy, sleeping beside the girl with one arm around her waist in a protective way.
"Ah Daigo..." A small smile appeared on Maki's lips and she lifted her right hand slowly, hesitating for a moment, before stroking his black hair. "I know I don't show my feelings much, but I... I really like you."
And she blushed at the realization that she had admitted it aloud. It was true, it had begun as a great friendship and partnership, and had gradually become a stronger feeling that Maki, ever being the closed and discret one, had taken a while to admit it, even more after the great loss in the digiworld, but with so many nights spent together, she could no longer hold herself.
"Will we ever be together? And will we find our partners again?" She murmured, still stroking his hair and then, gently lowering her fingers down his cheek, lightly touching his lips, which made her heart race.
Suddenly, she felt the arm around her pull her toward Daigo's chest, holding her tight to his body and Maki froze and closed her eyes, blushing even more with the idea of Daigo having heard her.
But nothing happened, he said nothing and slowly, Maki opened her eyes and realized that the boy still had his eyes closed, but he smiled lightly, as if having her in his arms made him happy and he laid his chin on the top of her head, snoring softly.
A warm feeling spread through Maki's heart, who closed her eyes too, relaxing and sleeping. And Daigo opened one eye, seeing that she had fallen asleep and he closed it again. He had listened to everything and had felt the luckiest guy in the world, he had been in love with Maki since they had been kids and intended to take her on a date when they finally went to college next year because he knew she still needed time to deal with things and didn't want to rush her.
