After he woke up from his coma, Seeley Booth knew something was different. He had always loved Brennan before, but now it was so much stronger. He didn't know what to do with himself. Whenever he looked at her, he was driven crazy with the fact that she wasn't his. Why couldn't his life just be like in the coma? Why did he have to wake up? He almost couldn't deal with the huge secret that he was now hiding from all the squints. After a particularly painful night, he decided to tell Sweets. Surely he'd know what to do, right?
"Sweets, I have to tell you something." Seeley looked down, he didn't want to admit his affections to anyone, they might view him differently.
"You're in love with Dr. Brennan" Sweets stole the words right from his mouth with a knowing smile. He tilted his head, studying Seeley.
"Y-yes, and I need to know if I should tell her. So do your shrinkey thing and tell me what I should do" he was caught off guard by Sweets' knowledge of his plight, a plight he thought he had been doing a good job of hiding. Instead of answering, Sweets took out on his brain scans and handed it to Booth.
"This is your brain scan before the surgery. This is the section of the brain associated with love and romantic feelings. This is your brain after the surgery. The feelings you have for Dr. Brennan aren't real, they are a by-product of your coma. You should wait at least a few weeks to tell her your feelings, to see if they are indeed genuine" Seeley was shocked. He had been sure Sweets would have told him to go after Bones. But what if he was right? What if his feelings really were fabricated? What if his brain had them as a reminder of the dream world? Seeley left the room, feeling more conflicted than when he had entered. He resolved to not tell Brennan, to see if his feelings were indeed fake. His interactions with Brennan over the next few weeks decreased significantly as Seeley tried to avoid her more and more. He wanted to have some time to figure out his feelings, and seeing her was just making it harder.
Almost 3 months had passed since his coma, and Seeley wished he was still in it. He saw Bones every day now, and they solved case like old times, but he would never feel the same. The one thing he wished for most though, was for Sweets to not have been right. This was because, as the weeks passed, his feelings for Brennan slowly faded away to nothing.
