George the Unfortunate Able Seaman
A Pirates of the Caribbean fanfiction. My apologies to Disney.
Author's Notes: This is just plain silly. So please note that the entirety of my knowledge of ships, the navy, and history of the Caribbean is all second-hand, and mostly comes from Voyage of the Dawn Treader and Master and Commander. Also, this is a little bit inspired by Tag & Bink, so not a Gary Stu, sorry. I think. Unless he is. He doesn't save the day and/or have everybody from Elizabeth Swann to Norrington to Davy Jones fall in love with him. He's… George.
George was wholly unremarkable, with an unremarkable little life, and an unremarkable appearance, and an unremarkable job. He was an Able Seaman on the Interceptor, and he mostly just scrubbed the forecastle.
His life was pretty uneventful, since something always happened during battle, and he always got injured first, and always managed to miss the entire thing.
That was until the day after the attack on Port Royal, where he somehow managed to tag along on an adventure of epic proportions. It would all be very exciting if almost everybody weren't trying to kill him.
The day of the attack on Port Royal, he was supposed to be watching the prisoners. This made no sense to George, because he just happened to be walking by the day before when Commodore Norrington picked him out during his promotion ceremony because they needed everybody else (except two officers enlisted to watch the Interceptor). Or maybe the two officers that were watching the Interceptor were supposed to be watching the prisoners and he was supposed to watch the Interceptor. It didn't really matter anyway since George gave the keys to his dog and told him to watch the prisoners.
Luckily, in the chaos after the attack on Port Royal, nobody noticed that he had skipped off to drink in the pub and left his dog to do his job for him, and thus he wasn't fired. Or hanged. Or beaten roughly by the other Seamen and left on the side of the road because they hadn't thought of it.
The morning after, George took his pills (that was a joke) and was quickly told that Commodore Norrington was personally going after Elizabeth Swann, and to get ready to sail. George was happy to oblige, because he wasn't fired. So he went about the usual, got on board, and got his stuff ready for a long voyage. He was late, so everyone else's belongings were already on deck, and they were busy loading other things, and getting the sails ready.
Suddenly, the ship started to move. George was a little surprised, but decided not to go out on deck to see what was going on. The rats were reenacting Shakespeare, and if George moved they would run away and he would never get to see the end of Othello. The little rat playing Desdemona was quite good.
What George missed while he was watching the Third Act, was that almost everybody on board the Interceptor jumped on board the ship that Captain Jack Sparrow and Will Turner had taken, and left George behind. They knew he was there, and they also knew that leaving the ship entirely empty was a Bad Idea, and they weren't stupid. However, they probably overestimated George's talents. Sparrow and Will jumped aboard the Interceptor, and sailed away.
