Disclaimer: Don't own it. Never have, never will. I own the original characters, though.
Spoilers: Through Charmed Noir and Smile Time. Set 16 years after Charmed Noir. Slightly AU. Piper and Leo have been together throughout the entire series, at least through the time they actually hooked up. Dan never came into play.
Author's Notes: For the sake of the story, Angel's timeline corresponds with the current Charmed timeline. And Doyle never died at the end of Hero.
Rating: PG-13
San Francisco -
Wyatt Matthew Halliwell jumped back as a puff of smoke erupted from the cauldron he was concocting a potion in.
He looked at the Book of Shadows.
His younger brother Chris orbed in beside him.
"What'cha doing?" he asked innocently.
"Trying out a few new spells," Wyatt replied without looking up from the Book.
"Does Mom know you're doing this?" Chris asked, looking over Wyatt's shoulder.
"Yes. She said as long as I don't do any dangerous spells or blow the house up, she's fine with it."
"Are you sure that was Mom you were talking to? That doesn't really sound like something she would say."
"Well, I summed it up a bit, but when you boil it down, that's what she did say."
It was Saturday, and the boys were home alone. Danny and Sam had gone to the movies, Leo was taking care of one of his charges, Paige was at Magic School, Phoebe was God knows where, and Piper was at the club, getting ready for that night's performance from Maroon 5.
Unbeknownst to the Halliwells, in Los Angeles, a 16 year-old girl was doing the same thing, though with chemicals instead of potion ingredients.
L.A. -
"Damnit! I STILL can't get that mix right!" she cried, stamping her foot and pulling her goggles off her eyes.
"Chase, relax. It takes years to get the combinations right. Unless you're a genius," Winifred "Fred" Burkle said to her friend.
"I know. I just feel like I should be good at this. I mean, I can float things in the air, I can read people's minds, I can even freeze time and teleport. And I can't even get an easy chemical compound right." She sat down heavily in a chair. "I can tell you what combinations of herbs are good for cooking, what'll kill you, and what'll kill which demons, but I can't even break down a simple carbon atom. Maybe I'm totally out of my element."
"You're really good with mathematical calculations," Fred supplied helpfully, hopping up on a table facing Chase.
"Yeah, you're right. But is it enough? I feel like I should be somewhere else, fighting demons or something. Am I crazy?"
Fred sighed and hopped down to comfort her friend. "No, you're not crazy. You're restless, that's all. I think what you need is a good road trip. We'll go together. Ever seen the Golden Gate Bridge?"
