The house had won again. The house always won, unless some idiot cheated or bribed the dealer, in which case they'd be dealt with. People believed in winning some and losing some, but the Casino believed in taking all the profit. Of course, sometimes you had to let them have the small victories.

Ken watched the table closely. That lady was there again, the one with the green eyes. The amount of wins when she was around was amazing, so he kept a note of where she went to. He didn't think it was cheating, though, because the losses around her were often huge.

A man walked past him, blocking his view of the table. He thought to ring security about a suspicious person, but stopped when he realised that he had no idea of what the man had been like. He'd just seemed wealthy, and that wasn't reason to ring security. He looked back at the table.

The lady had placed herself beside a black man. He certainly didn't look well off. She usually did have a taste for the underdogs. The black man grinned suggestively at her, and she smiled back. Ken looked at her eyes again, and wished he hadn't.

She turned to him and winked, her reptile eyes gleaming emerald.

Okay, so maybe he wouldn't lose out on this. The more the black man won, the more Ken wondered if he could use this guy. New to town, a little naive... he'd be ideal.

He adjusted his glasses, dusted his nose with a tissue, and smoothed down his suit, making sure he looked presentable. Then he thought better of it, and went up to have a drink.

Without either of them knowing it, the lady had smiled on both of them. And she found herself liking the pathetic man, because he didn't rely on her.
