Musings of Those Who 'Lived Happily Ever After'

A long, long time ago…

In a land far, far away…

She remembered…

Her first taste of the salty sea as she was born into the storm…

Being told stories of those who lived up on land…

And how different they were – no fins, instead they had these things they called 'legs'…

Seeing the strange 'humans' for the very first time…

And breaking the rules – saving a human…

She could remember…

The joy of walking on land…

The pain of having no voice to release her feelings with…

But she had forgotten…

The delight of swimming and visiting those who lived underwater…

The pleasure of finding those belongings of humans…

As well as entertaining others with fanciful notions of the land-dwellers…

And the thrill of catching those rare glimpses of humans aboard their 'ships'…

However she had realized…

That this place above water no longer held shimmer of mysteries waiting to be discovered…

Rather it was the sea that shimmered – enticing her to return…

For she had overlooked…

The fact that a toy over-used and played too much with loses charm quickly and makes us resort back to our old toys – or rather our old lives.

And that toy was this land – it bored her now and she longed once more for the vivacious sea where she was born.
