AN: Merry Christmas everyone!!!!!!!!! I've had this christmas idea bugging me for ages, so I decided to use one of my lunch breaks to write it. Enjoy!
It was the night before Christmas, and all through the castle, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse…WAIT!! There's something wrong with that sentence. Ah! That's it! First off, most of the occupants are awake and chatting. Second, a mouse is currently being chased by Crookshanks up on the 7th floor. Anyway, back to the castle.
It was Christmas Eve, and was about ten at night. Hogwarts could be seen glittering from the distance cheerfully, but the closer you got, the more desperate the castle seemed. The school had been under siege for the past three months, and Voldemort and his cronies showed no signs of backing off. The sixth and seventh years were still up and talking, however they'd sent the younger ones to bed ages ago, praying that there would be no nightmares that night. The staff were in a rather large room, discussing the siege and students. The ghosts were either floating about the corridors or were comforting the younger years when they woke up from nightmares.
There was one seventh year, however, who was not with the others. In fact, he and three ghosts were up on the Astronomy Tower. I can already hear you say 'oh-oh', but what they were about to do would not only affect the occupants of the castle, but also the besiegers. What were they going to do? They were going to sing. Yes, sing. Their voices would carry in the darkness to those both in and out of the castle. Their voices, raised in joyous melody, would cause conversations to stop to be replaced with teary eyes. Plans would be replaced with hope. Terror with pleasure. Those with nightmares would be soothed, and all would sleep with a smile lingering in remembrance. The staff would try and figure out whose voices they heard, but would not succeed. Even those besiegers would stop all activity and listen. The Dark Lord himself, would be seen with a very, very, very small smile, but one none-the-less. The Death Eaters, the most feared people in the country, would be seen with twinkly, teary eyes, and a few could be heard sniffing (although that might have something to do with the snow. Or so they say.)
Everyone stayed still and silent for a long time after the last note rang out. It was during this time that the four singers disbanded, going to different parts of the school. One to a girls' bathroom, one to the Ravenclaw common room, one to the Slytherin common room and one to the Gryffindor common room.
That Christmas Eve went down in Hogwarts; A History, as one of the most touching and inspirational events to have occurred. No one knows even now, who those four are, but they can still be heard each Christmas Eve, and they still bring things to a standstill.
