"Guess what? I just got offered a job to teach French in Cleveland. Isn't that great?"

There was a heavy silence, before he stuttered out,

"Full time?"

"No. Who are you talking to? 4 months tops."

"Don't you have any feelings about leaving?"

"Didn't you listen to my song? I told you Will, I live the glamorous life of a substitute teacher. I'm deathly allergic to commitment. You knew that this was going to end this way."

"Doesn't mean it doesn't hurt."

He was right, and she knew it. It hurt so much but she had to let him go. He was never hers to begin with.

"You're too nice for me. But you broke my record, five dates."

"You counted the one we had in the janitor's closet yesterday?"

"That was my favourite one."

"Mine too."

As they both thought back on all the times they had together, she could not deny how happy she was when she was with Will.

"You think you're ever going to settle down?"

"Maybe. But not with you." She placed her hand on his cheek, for the last time. This was it.

"You're in love with somebody else and thanks to my counselling she's available now."

She kissed him softly on the lips and she knew he was too stunned to do anything.

It hurt, even more now than ever. To help him realise his true feelings while denying her own. It burned her chest with every breath. She wished so much that she could have him, but she knew that he would never feel as deep for her, as she did for him.

She turned away, the longer she stayed the longer she regretted her decision. But she realised there was something she left out,

"And by the way, she's totally into you too." She added, if she was going to break up with him she had to make sure he knew. Then her job would be done.

This was it. She turned away for good.

"Holly."

Her heart stopped beating. Had he chosen her, for good? It seemed too good to be true, she knew how deep his feelings ran for Emma.

"Will you come back and visit?"

She took a deep breath, hoping it wouldn't be too shaky that he would notice how upset it clearly made her.

She plastered a smile onto her face as she turned to him. The only man she would truly love. The man who was unavailable.

"I thought you'd never ask."

With another deep breath, she started down the hall of the school that felt like home. The place where she found her true love. Her and Will, they would never be. She only hoped that he would find the happiness he wanted with Emma, the happiness that she led him to.

And as she left him standing there, she knew she had made the right choice.
