"The dam ran as always as Joel and Ellie approached the front gate. Joel looked back at Ellie, she was a few yards behind him, staring at the ground while deep in thought. Joel knew one day she would know the truth, he just hopped it wouldn't be soon.
Joel looked away from Ellie, and to the guard tower. Joel waved his hands to the tower, but the gate did not open. There was no sign of activity, there wasn't any animals, either. Which was odd, considering the fact they were in the middle of a forest. As they got closer to the gate, Joel could hear the faint clicks and cries of the infected within the dam's walls. Joel, out of instinct, pulled out his revolver and crouched by the trees surrounding the path.
Joel protectively looked back at Ellie, who was obviously still in her day-dream as she didn't notice the distinctive voice of the infected. Joel whistled at Ellie, and she looked up, finally hearing the danger ahead. Ellie crouched and hustled over to Joel, asking once she reached him, "What are we going to do, Joel?" She was worried for him, his only family left lives (or once did) at the dam. She showed her worry in her voice.
"I don't know," Joel replied. He scanned the wall for a way over, but surprisingly found a way under instead. Joel pointed at an animal-made burough on the wall right of the gate, and said, "See that? I'm too big to crawl through, you'll have to go through and open the gate. I'll throw something to distract the infected, just be sure to be as quiet as possible. Do you think you could do that, Ellie?"
"Hell yeah," Ellie noticed Joel's disliking of her cussing, "I mean... You bet I can boss." She gave Joel a playful punch on the arm, and hurried to the burough. She slid through quite quickly, and waited for Joel's distraction.
Joel found a large rock and chucked it over the gate at a trash can. Bulls eye. The collision attracted every clicker in the area, giving Ellie time to act. Ellie rushed to the fence gate and pushed. The gate squeaked, and Joel noticed the clickers rear the deformed faces their way and shriek loudly. Ellie got the gate open enough for Joel to slide through, but the clickers were already on their way.
"RUN!" Joel yelled. "Where to, Joel?!" Ellie hollered. Joel quickly noticed an open door across the court-yard, which led into the generator room. Ellie led the way, Joel behind her supplying cover fire. As they made it half way there, the ground shook as a huge, fungi covered infected walked out of the shadows. "SHIT! BLOATER! What now, Joel?" Ellie asked, a hint of panic in her voice. "Keep going! We can out run it!"
"JOEL!" Ellie whined in protest. They both made it through the door, and Joel slammed it shut before the bloater could grab them. Joel latched the lock, but they needed to move, the bloater was putting dangerously large dents in the door. Just as Joel started to lead Ellie away from the door, they were stopped by a group of investigating clickers. "Shit Joel, we're trapped!"
