A/N: I don't have the words to even express how that new TLJ trailer made me feel. Just…wow. Here's my little drabble—did you know a "drabble" is actually one hundred words?—for today's Star Wars Fictober Prompt. Day 9: Flaw.

Broken Crystals, Broken People

It started out as the tiniest little flaw, nearly imperceptible to the naked eye. But Luke had seen it nonetheless and he frowned.

"The crystal is cracked, Ben," he said, examining the kyber closely.

The teen's dark eyebrows pulled together as they too often did. "But it called to me. Am I not meant to use it?" Confusion and disappointment mingled in his eyes.

Luke placed the crystal in the palm of Ben's outstretched hand. "Yes," he said thoughtfully, "but you must be careful how you construct your lightsaber, how you wield it. Too much stress on the crystal will cause the crack to widen."

That's why it called to you, a voice whispered to Ben. You're damaged. He shivered. "What happens then? What happens if it breaks?"

"Nothing good."

The answer dissatisfied Ben, but he held his tongue. The crystal was one thing; he was too afraid to ask what happens to people who break.
