Summary: "If you're not scared, then why am I?" Sammy whispered, the words barely leaving his lips.
A/N: Just a short oneshot about Sammy and Dean when they were younger.
---
Rain pounded loudly against the windows, thunder cracked not far away and somewhere in the distance were sounds that sounded suspiciously like howls of werewolves.
Sammy clutched his eyes shut and ducked a little deeper under his blanket. He shivered madly, but it was not from the cold. In his right hand he held his old stuffed rabbit tightly.
He wished his father was there, but he had gone out, hunting. The young brunette tried to ignore the sounds and the images which slipped unconsciously into his mind. His father getting killed. Dean hurt badly, while he was unable to do anything. Not to think of all the dangerous things that could come into the little cottage.
Minutes passed by sluggishly slow, but the fear would not leave him alone. Considering his chances carefully, he put his head a little over the edge of the blanket, but it was too dark to see.
Another flash of lightning suddenly enlightened the room, putting everything into a white light. A loud thunder followed only seconds after it. He clasped his hand before his mouth to not let out any sounds. The sudden light and sounds had surprised him, even though he usually was not afraid of the strong force nature put on the world.
Slipping out from under his thick blanket he quickly made his way to the other side of the room where another bed stood. Dean's bed.
"Scared?" Dean asked with a hushed voice. Sammy knew his older brother looked at him carefully and he nodded.
Without another word Dean held up one side of his blanket, allowing the younger one to slip between it, who did so gratefully.
"Aren't you scared?" Sammy asked with a soft voice, inching closer to Dean. He put his head against Dean's chest and still held his stuffed rabbit tightly, who now laid between them.
"Nope." Dean replied, putting one of his arms over the shivering form of his younger brother.
"If you're not scared, then why am I?" Sammy whispered, the words barely leaving his lips. Another flash immediately followed by a loud thunder.
"Your my little brother. It's my duty as older brother to protect you. I can't be afraid of anything." Dean said, pulling Sammy a little closer to his own form.
"I won't let anything ever harm you. Okay? You don't have to be afraid."
Sammy nodded gratefully in Dean's chest, and slowly the shivering stopped as Dean's words took out most of his fear.
I'm not afraid. Dean'll keep me save. The younger of the Winchester brothers thought, falling asleep not much later after that.
