Christmas
It was winter that meant that it was freezing outside.
The Gryffindor Common Room was kept warm and toasty by the fire that the house elves tended to unseen.
It was Christmas today.
He should have been having Christmas with Sirius this year in the dusty old Grimmuld Place with his screeching mother hidden behind a curtain until disturbed.
They would have been making jokes about burning the old Black Manor down to keep warm and other stupid things that did nothing but make them happy with the mere thought of it happening.
Sirius would complain about Kreacher and how much he hated the old house elf and wanted to let his head join the heads of his ancestors decorating the staircase and some corridors.
He would have finally have a Christmas with someone who was family.
Christmas was supposed to be a time for family but he did not have any family.
He truly had no idea why Ron always complained about having so many siblings. He wished he had siblings so that even if his parents were dead, he still had family.
He would have given anything for a family and still would but that was impossible.
Harry was sure he was related to some people in the Wizarding World through James' Potter line. Purebloods were usually related in some way or another so he did probably have some relatives somewhere but Harry had no idea how to go about finding who he was related to. What happened if he found out he was related to Voldemort?
That thought made Harry shiver despite the warmth from the fire. The thought of being in Voldemort's custody because they were related was a horrifying one. Or even if he was related to the Malfoys which was about as bad as being related to Voldemort. The Malfoys would willingly hand him over to Voldemort without a second thought.
Harry shook himself out of his thoughts. It was Christmas, he should not be thinking about all those things.
He had at least one Christmas with his family even if he could not remember it. He knew he had it and that was enough for now.
He hoped to have a family in the future, after the war was over.
He wanted a large family to make up for the years he had no family. He would spoil his children on Christmas every year because he had never had anyone to spoil him during Christmas.
He wanted to celebrate their births and care for them when they were sick because he had never had anyone to care for him when he was sick and spoil him for no reason, never had parents to sneak out of the house from and get punished just to learn a lesson or pulling it off as a joke.
That was another reason to win the war, to beat Voldemort.
To have the family he never had.
For now the thought, the hope, was enough to keep him warm until it came true.
It would provide him with the warmth to survive the cold winter.
