author's note: new story about our favorite couple!
disclaimer: sadly, i don't own kingdom hearts. i wish i did, but i'm a yaoi fangirl, and you know what that means…
summary: Why did he leave? Why was he walking away from him? Why? Why, why, why? He didn't understand, not one bit. He wasn't sure if he never was, or if he wanted to.
Kingdom Hearts
Disappearance
Watching him disappear had to be the most terrifying thing he had ever seen in his entire life. Watching him just…fade away… It brought pain to his heart. The pain grew into disbelief, amazingly enough, instead of numbness. He didn't understand why he was going away, but he was definitely didn't want him to.
"I'm sorry, Roxas, but this has to happen."
"Why, Axel, why! I've been nothing but understanding and attentive to you. I've never cheated on you! Hell, I've never even looked at anybody else but you since we got together! So, tell me, Axel, why are you breaking up with me?"
Axel had a pained look on his face; as if this was the absolute last thing he wanted to do.
"…Roxas. You don't understand. You don't understand at all! I have to do this! It's for your own good and mine!"
"Explain it to me then! Tell me why!"
"I can't, Roxas. I just…can't. I'm sorry, really, I am, but this is over. Our relationship is over, Roxas."
And with that, Axel turned and walked away, disappearing into the night.
Roxas watched his back get further and further away from him. He stared at it, with tears running down his face and confusion in his eyes. Why did he go? Didn't he love him anymore? Did he not do enough? Did he do too much? What did he do wrong? He didn't get it at all. He wanted to be back with Axel, in his arms, being held close, as if he was the most precious thing in the world. He wanted to feel Axel around him, as he cooked or as they lay in bed at night or on a rainy day. He wanted to feel Axel's breath on his neck, as he leaned in to kiss him there, and see his green eyes sparkling gin excitement, mischief… and love. He wanted to run his fingers through Axel's unruly hair. He wanted to smell that smokey smell that clung to him and never went away. He wanted to hear Axel's voice in his ear as Axel murmured sweet nothings into it. He wanted to feel Axel's presence, whether or not he was in the same room. He wanted the consuming desire Axel ignited in him. He wanted to hear the sometimes caustic and sarcastic things Axel would say. He wanted Axel to put it simply, and everything that came with Axel.
Roxas thought about all of this as he watched Axel walk away. He thought about this as dusk turned into dawn. These thoughts just kept replaying as he walked back to his apartment and curled up under the blankets on his bed. He pulled the blankets tight around him, already missing the heat Axel always provided him.
Roxas cried that night, and slept with nightmares of Axel's disappearance.
author's note: yes, i know, it's short, sorry about that, but it seemed right to end it like this. i finished it weeks ago, but i didn't post it. why? no idea, but i am today! if you want, i will post a second part to this, either as another chapter or as companion piece to this, about why axel broke up with roxas. my inspiration for this story was my depression at the time and memories of dramatic break ups in romance movies.
author's note two: as always, please pm or review if there are any questions, comments or concerns regarding this story. i hope you guys enjoyed it! have a good day!
