Disclaimer: If Harry Potter belonged to me… Well, let's not dwell on that, shall we?
Tom didn't know what was going on. One moment Malfoy had been recounting how he had cursed Ella MacDonald with a face full of boils the other day, the simpering fool, and the next there was an explosion or billowing grey smoke, which obstructed their view. It was so sudden and unexpected that Tom had no time to react accordingly.
Then his followers started murmuring among themselves, whispering frantically and quite a few "What's happening?" and "It's Grindelwald! We're all gonna die!" thrown about. Tom made a mental note to punish Black for allowing such incompetent idiots into the meetings. But then he spotted Professor Slughorn's face from through the smoke, his pudgy face furious and shocked. He then did the only thing he could think of. He ran out of the room.
Malfoy and Lestrange hurried after him. Behind him, he could hear the room descend into full-blown chaos as their leader left. Now that Tom could think properly, he glared Malfoy.
"Who told him?" he asked icily, a dark threat present in his narrowed eyes.
"I-I don't know, my lord! Only a few people should have known that we had meetings like this – "
"And even fewer should have known that the location was the Room of Requirement. I want my answers, Malfoy. Who told him? "
"My lord, I – "
But Tom wasn't listening. He had caught sight of glittering viridian eyes and stopped, eyes locked on the smirking face of Hadrian Evans. When Evans saw that Tom was looking at him, his smirk deepened and he lifted his eyebrow, looking at the chaos behind them.
Suddenly, everything became clear. "Who's that?" Tom asked Lestrange.
Lestrange followed his intent gaze. "Oh, him?" he said with a sneer, "That's Hadrian Evans, the half-blood – "
"I know his name." Tom said impatiently. "I was asking if you knew anything about him."
"Oh, well, he's in Slytherin, same year as us, parents are… they are …" Lestrange trailed off and his eyes widened. "How could I not know? Did I dismiss him completely?"
"Exactly." Tom hissed. "We know nothing about him. This is a serious oversight."
He saw emerald eyes laugh at him. Well played, Tom thought, I have underestimated him. This is a fearsome opponent.
