Whatever It Takes

Luke was worried. Yes about himself and Thalia, but most of all about the newest member of their little 'family', Annabeth. She was only seven, to young to be thrust into this horrific world of monsters and gods. He was to young when he learned of it and at the time, he was two years older than she was now. He was broken out of his thoughts by a concerned voice yelling his name. he glanced up to see Thalia struggling to hold up Annabeth who appeared to have passed out. He hurried over to help and grabbed the small girl. "You need to rest. We all do." He told Thalia whilst lowering Annabeth to ground. "Fine," she agreed, "but just for an hour or two. The monsters are close."

"Go, take Annabeth," Thalia huffed, "The safe house is just a few more miles. I'll hold them off." "No," Luke practically screamed, "They'll kill you. I'll stay, you take Annabeth." Thalia looked like she was about to object when Luke interrupted. "You have a better chance of getting there, I can barely run on my leg, much less carry Annabeth as well. " He said, glancing at the young girl with a gash on her head. It was hastily bandaged she was still unconscious. "we are wasting time, just go." He said, moving to stand in front of Thalia.

I'll protect you, whatever it takes.

The monsters had once again caught up, and this time it seemed there would not be a safe escape. There were at least 20, if not 30 and Luke knew that they wouldn't be able to hold this group off. They had nowhere to run, their closest safehouse was destroyed and the one after that was miles away. He readied himself to fight and opened his mouth to command the others to flee. Before he could say anything Thalia put a hand on his shoulder stopping him. "We fight together or not at all." She said, grabbing her weapons and standing beside him whilst pushing Annabeth to the back. At least Luke could protect her without causing a fight. He and Thalia both agreed on that. Keep Annabeth safe, no matter the cost.

I'll protect you, whatever it takes.

Luke regretted going home. Granted, it had helped Thalia. Her injury had been bad and they were out of medical supplies, but it had scared Annabeth and she was still way to young. She should be at home, living a normal life. Going to school, making friends, having a nice meal every night. Not on the run, living off child should have to do that, much less a seven year old. At that moment he made a decision. He would protect Annabeth and Thalia, even if it cost him his life.

I'll protect you, whatever it takes.

Luke decided that they needed more supplies. Annabeth was hungry and they were running out of bandages. The monster attacks were getting more frequent and they were getting harder and harder to hold off or kill. They were getting injured more often and it was taking them longer to get from place to place. They were somewhere in New Jersey, in the woods near a small town. There seemed to be a festival going on and Luke wanted to avoid it. "Come on," Thalia had said, "It'll be fun!" she then promptly ran off, dragging Annabeth behind her. Luke sighed and followed her into the crowd.

I'll protect you, whatever it takes.
