When fifteen-year-old May Maple follows a peculiar cat through a strange-looking door, she never stops to think about the consequences that might befall her. And when she realizes too late that she'd arrived in a world different from her own, she must forget about everything she's ever known and believe the impossible.
As she slowly adjusts to her new life, she makes friends that are centuries older than her: Misty Waterflower, a red-headed girl with a fiery personality; Dawn LeNoir, a perky girl with the energy of a super-ball; and Leaf Green, a nature-loving pacifist who seems to be the only thing that holds the group together. At the same time, she is warned of the enemies that lurk in the dark—a group of half-demons that supposedly want the Star Jewel for their own advantage. But when everything gets out of hand and the Star Jewel shatters to pieces, the girls are forced to make alliance with the half-demon boys to make it whole again. And as they delve deeper and deeper into the heart of an arcane plot, the girls realize that there is one person that is the true enemy to the world…
