Title: Hope
Disclaimer: Don't own the characters, only the words in my head.
This is set at the end of the 4.0 episode. I wrote it awhile back, but I haven't had a chance to type it up untill now. Its really short and I apologise, but its kinda pointless- just what I wish happened. Wow now that I say that, it really is pointless. huh- oh well enjoy it anyway lol. I promise I have better stories to come! oh and leave a review!
This was it. This was the reason I chose this job.
"Martin, she is by the pool."
Relief floods through me as I turn to the girl's mother.
"We've found her."
Tears stream down her face. The stress, worry, and fear all being replaced by relief. The proof of a parent's love. Someday, I think, someday I'm gonna know what its like- to love a child unconditionally. Hope can be rewarded. There is always hope.
I walk briskly behind her as she runs towards the pool. Tears form in the corners of my eyes as I watch the tearful reunion.
Jack glances towards me and I know he is thinking it too. All of the paperwork and questioning, the long hours and running through phone records, its all worth it. It is worth witnessing this.
I pull my phone out as we walk the empty halls to call Samantha and Vivian. My voice sounds husky as I tell them that we had found the girl.
"She okay?" Sam questions.
"We're talking them to the hospital just to make sure, but she seems as good as can be expected."
I wonder if she could be her, the mother of my children. Its hard to picture Sam as a mother, not to mention a wife, with her shell that she keeps around her protecting her from pain. If there is one thing that I have learned from this job, its that people can change. I've watched Sam slowly begin to trust and drop her guard, just a bit. I begin to smile. Maybe, with patience and love. Hope, there is always hope.
"Martin? You there?"
Her voice snaps me back into reality.
"Always," I say. A faint sound come over the line and I can picture her smirk.
"See ya," she says.
"Yeah, bye."
Hope, there is always hope.
PS Love reviewers!
