Mary Margaret
"There you go," said Mary Margaret, wiping the last bit of dirt off of the little girl's hand. "All better."
The little girl gave Mary Margaret a watery smile. "Thank you Miss Blanchard!" she said, wiping the small tears away from her eyes.
"Sure," she said, patting the girl on her arm. "Everybody falls down some times. We just all need someone to help pick us up."
The little girl smiled again and skipped out across the playground.
Mary Margaret sighed. "To be that young again…"
She turned around, facing the road. She watched as a white car slowly came up.
Wait. She knew that car…
Sure enough, David Nolan's blue eyes peered out from the rolled-down window. Mary Margaret's breath caught as she felt those eyes lock onto hers. She gave him a small smile, but it instantly faded as she saw one of David's tires drive off-road. She yelled out his name, but just heard David's good-natured laugh in return, and saw his thumbs-up stick out of the window.
She laughed as well, shaking her head. That boy would be the end of her some day.
David
David Nolan was driving his car for the first time since losing his memory. He was glad to find that he hadn't lost his motor skills. He drove the car with ease and felt a subtle sense of familiarity of the feel of the car's undulating wheel under his hands.
He was driving down a straight road when he saw a school rise in the distance. His heart began to pump in his chest. He had heard that that woman, Mary Margaret, worked as a teacher. Could this be the school that she worked at? He slowed his car down subconsciously, desperately hoping that there was some odd chance that Mary Margaret was outside.
His throat closed up when he saw her. She was helping a little girl that had evidently fallen, but was smiling as she looked up at her beautiful teacher. Mary Margaret sent her on her way and turned to face the road.
David felt the same sense of panic that so many lovers do. That moment when they think, "Holy crap, what do I do?" But as Mary Margaret made eye contact with him, he felt the rest of the world dissolve. He just stared at her beaming face, but then it was washed away. "David!" he heard her shout as his car jerked as it went off the road. He laughed, embarrassed, and just hung his hand out of the window and gave her a thumbs-up.
That girl would be the end of him someday.
