A/N: A bit of a drabble that I wrote some time ago. Incase you don't know, Elanor is Samwise's daughter. When she grew up, she became a handmaiden to Arwen whilst in her tweens before returning to Hobbiton and marrying.

-Elvish in the White City-

"Do you really understand that writing?" Elanor asked over his shoulder.

"Yes!" Aragorn said in surprise, looking up from the letter that he was reading. It was from Elladan in far-off Rivendell and was written in flowing Elvish script.

"It is beautiful, isn't it?" she said, reaching out to touch the page, as if by touching it she may come to understand it.

"Very," he replied, looking deeply at the young hobbit-lass. She was a year into her tweens and very wise for her age. King Elessar enjoyed her company very much.

The pair were in the second ring of the city of Minas Tirith. Aragorn often spent time out here, enjoying the plants and trees brought by the Elves. They reminded he and his queen of Rivendell, where they both spent their childhoods. He was sitting on a small mound of grass, his back up against a rock strategically placed by the Dwarves of the Mountains. Only when he was sitting in this position could Elanor peer over his shoulder, and she made the most of this rare advantage.

"Would you like to learn?" he asked.

Elanor's brown hobbit-eyes widened. "Me?" she gasped. "Me learn to speak the language of the Elves? Me?"

Aragorn laughed kindly. "Of course, you. Why ever not?"

"But they're Elves, my lord," the young Hobbit said in disbelief. "Could I do such a thing?"

"Most certainly. You are very clever, Elanor."

"No, no – begging your pardon, sir. Wouldn't they," she lowered her voice to a whisper, "wouldn't they mind?"

"Oh, Elanor, my silly young girl!" Aragorn exclaimed. "The Elves do not mind you learning their languages! In fact, they would be very impressed with you."

"Impressed? By me?" Elanor's eyes shone at the very thought.

"I do believe so," Aragorn said, an amused smile on his face.

"Then, I, er, I would be most pleased to learn, my lord," Elanor stammered nervously.

"Well then, let us begin our first lesson now," Aragorn beckoned to her to sit in front of him. She did so, a large smile on her pretty face.
