For some reason, history class makes me procrastinate like a bitch. I've had this floating around in my head for a week, I don't know where I want to go with it, but...yeah.

Sirius is deathly, deathly afraid of the dark.

Once, when James was seven, he ran out in the street and started howling at the moon, beating his chest. He wasn't a very good Tarzan.

Remus was, but for all the wrong reasons.

Peter grew up with a pet rabbit. He named it Tom, because he couldn't think of a better name.

He wishes that he had.

The first time James saw Lily was on the train. He followed a trail of red hair and found her sitting in a compartment, staring out the window, crying. He laughed, even though he'd never seen anything less funny.

Lily heard him laughing, and years later, when James admitted that he'd only laughed because he didn't know what to do, Lily just smiled sadly and changed the topic.

Sirius didn't like Lily at first, because he had the funny feeling that she would end up married to his best friend, and that would mean that he'd have to lose someone again.

He also didn't like that she was friends with Snivellus, but he had a grudging respect for the fact that she had the strength to be friends with such a git.

On the other hand, that made her stupidly, blindly loyal, a quality which Sirius, of course, didn't possess.

During their seventh year, when James and Lily started dating, they were both terrified of each other. They were terrified that the other might ruin them for everyone else, but James decided to ignore that feeling (he'd been doing it for two years) and hold Lily closer. After that, she stopped being scared.

Sirius liked to play guitar in the middle of the night, and he played so viciously one night that he tore the strings and gashed his right hand. He'd thrown the guitar away in disgust, but the next day, he found it lying on his bed, pieced back together, with a note on it:

Black-

Throw this piece of junk outside my window once more and I swear to Merlin that I will kill you

-all my love,

Evans

Remus would have been friends with Lily, but they both held back sometimes, and those sometimes were always in the presence of each other. Maybe it was because everyone assumed that they'd be the most natural friends, but there was a reason why Sirius was godfather and Remus was not.

Not that Lily didn't love Remus- she did, with all her heart, but Sirius was James and James was Sirius.

James' last dream was of a moon, and of a boy who didn't know how it felt to say goodbye.

Lily won't remember her last dream; she will only remember the sensation of being lifted off the ground and wanting to choke on laughter, because it all felt so wrong, and they were too young.

When Peter was five, he accidentally drank a bottle of whiskey instead of milk. His parents didn't notice that he was unusually exuberant that day.

Sirius doesn't dream: not anymore, anyway.

As always, reviews are very much appreciated.

(And Mama Bennet fans: I'm working on the next chapter.)
