Ise Nanao sat behind the huge cherry wood desk, shuffling papers. Although this desk was technically her captain's, this was not an unusual sight. Kyoraku-taicho never had, and probably never will sit at that desk. Because Nanao's desk was far too small to house all the paperwork for Eighth Division, she used Kyoraku's. It was there that she sat, shuffling papers, when Kyoraku-taicho came in, looking sleepy. Not that he ever looked wide awake.

"You're late, sir." She told him this every day, without fail, because he was always late. The only exception was when he got so drunk that he passed out right there in the office, and didn't go home.

"Yare, yare, Nanao-chan, how can you be so wide awake so early in the morning?"

"It is 11:03 am. In 57 minutes and 13 seconds, it will be noon. It is not early." Nanao replied without glancing up.

"Noon is pretty early..." Shunsui argued feebly.

He walked over to the couch, and in 34.87653 seconds, he was asleep. After Nanao was sure about this, she stopped shuffling papers. She then took out her gargantuan book, opened it, and began to write in it. She seemed to forget about everything around her as she wrote, a peaceful look came onto her face.

A few minutes later, Shunsui opened his eyes. And blinked. Nanao glanced up, and he pretended to sleep. She went back to writing, and, (in Shunsui's opinion), the most adorable look returned to her face. He continued to watch her, and wondered why she was writing in her book...

Then her look changed and her head jerked up. 'Stay calm, stay calm, pretend it's nothing...' She thought. Then she spoke. "Kyoraku-taicho, you're awake." She sounded mildly surprised, and, though few would have noticed it, a little flustered.

"Not for long..." Shunsui replied, sinking back into the realms of sleep, and dreaming of his Nanao-chan.

Nanao heaved a sigh and put away her book. She was glad he hadn't asked her about it, but she knew he would once he was really awake. She would have to come up with a satisfying explanation before that happened.

After all, it just wouldn't do for her taicho to know she kept a diary.
