The Truth.

Set during the events of the little clip at the end of season 2 episode 13. It seems like a good premise for a story and of course spoilers for season 2. Zac's parents tell him the truth. Any one catch the Thirteenth Year reference?

I don't own Mako Mermaids!

The table was too quiet at dinner with my parents. Normally, I wouldn't be here and rather be out with my friends. Today turned out to be a special occasion. Earlier, I had learned that I had been a merman all my life. That my mother was a mermaid and I have a sister. A sister that is masquerading as the principal's niece.

Now I had to know the truth. If I really was adopted or something crazy like kidnapped. Actually, that would be seriously freaky. Dad had invited me to watch something on the nature channel. Mum washed the dishes in the meantime. Thankfully, I no longer had that chore since I had claimed the old boathouse.

Evie should be here, she wouldn't beat around the bush, but this was something I had to know. A lie of some kind would have to bring them out of their secret. Why wouldn't they tell me? Normally, I would be telling mum and dad about my day with Evie. Vaguely explain Ondina, Mimmi, and Sirena. Then avoid talking about Cam all together.

"Zac your father and I need to tell you something," said mum standing in front of the television. She had turned off the television and now both looked at me. Maybe now they would tell? After 16 years of not knowing? I tried to keep my cool hoping that they wouldn't figure out that I knew.

Mum took my spot on the couch and I plopped down on the chair. I was ready to tell them that I already knew but held my tongue. If I had said something, then that would blow my cover. How did you know? What do you know? The questions would go on and on.

"Zac you just had your seventeenth birthday and we need to tell you something," said dad. He had cleared his throat and looked to mum to continue the story.

"Sweetie, we were waiting until you were mature enough to take the news. Since you're old enough, I hope you'd understand and ask us any questions that you have. You're adopted," said mum. She had looked me straight in the eye and told me.

Then she pulled some paperwork from a folder that she had in her hand. I couldn't believe this! They were waiting this long to tell me? For what reasons? Now I have reasons for not talking to Mimmi and the others.

"What?" I said blankly, trying to make this believable.

"You're adopted sweetie. In this folder is the paperwork from the adoption agency. The note about the day you were born, everything we needed to know."

"Wait, what note?" I asked.

"The adoption agency said that you were found on the back of a boat. The couple that had found you, Sharon and Whit Griffin, had called the police and everything. I couldn't get pregnant so we had planned on adopting. Then you came along," said Mum.

I can't believe Narissa had left me on the back of a boat. Merman weren't common but maybe they were at one point. Erik had said that merman were raised on land.

I tried hard to keep my anger in, but I couldn't do it. I was already standing, ready to throw a tantrum. Mum still holding her papers with the proof in her hands.

Dad sat there with a stony look on his face. He hadn't said anything since mum had told me.

"Dad do you have anything you want to add?" I asked desperately. He only shook his head no. I was a real merman, a northern merman, and I just stopped talking to all of my friends. Erik would be figuring out about the chamber. Viridia is on land walking around with Rita.

Then I knew something bad was coming. This was only just the beginning.
