I'm finally back after a brief hiatus and it's with a new series. I stumbled upon a Bleach Fanfic Contest Community on LiveJournal where a new theme is posted every few weeks or so I guess. Had I know about it in late 2007, this would have been my submission for Week One. If someone from the community finds this, I don't mean it like I'm stealing your themes, but merely using them to inspire stories for my pleasure and that of whomever decides to read this. Thanks.
Disclaimer: I don't own Bleach, the theme or the requirements for said theme.
Week One: Future
Word Count: 300 (that was the maximum)
Rating: G
Pairings/Characters: Rukia-centric
Miniatures
The others were enamored with the lingerie store and now, Rukia was enjoying her time alone during the Shinigami Women's Association's trip to the mall.
She wandered aimlessly, soaking up solitude for the first time in months to clear her head.
All mental processes halted when Rukia noticed them delicately propped up in a storefront window. They were the smallest pair of shoes that she'd ever seen.
Rukia's heart began to beat double-time. Other miniatures surrounded the infantine pair and her breath caught.
Each piece of the indigo ensemble had been crafted with the utmost care and her hands clenched in desire to grasp them.
The wallet in her purse suddenly weighed more heavily and she found herself walking into the establishment.
An attendant approached and Rukia gave a mere hello before saying, "The display in the window . . . I would like to buy the full set."
The worker nodded sagely and complimented, "That design will go beautifully with a daughter of your features, Miss."
Walking away to collect Rukia's items, she couldn't hear the gigai-clad shinigami mutter, "I think they would be better suited to an obnoxious shade of orange. Complimentary colors go best, right?"
Rukia waited silently as the attendant rang up her purchases. Her little bag in hand, she was the picture of calm heading to the park in the golden sunset hours.
Using minimal effort, she reached the upper branches of a sprawling tree and, with trembling fingers, took out the garments. Laying down, she rested the clothing carefully upon her stomach, the shoes demurely on top.
Patting the oh-so-slight bulge of her abdomen, Kurosaki Rukia fell asleep.
Whoa. Squeezing all of this into only 300 words was way harder than I thought it would be. I must have gone back in to edit things out at least ten times, but I'm pretty happy with the result. Reviews make me a happy person *hint, hint, nudge, nudge.* Week Two: Rest.
