"Hey, look, a butterfly!"

"I got it!"

"Nice."

"Ren, yah want it?"

"Sh..."

"You guys hear that?"

"What the..."

BOOM!

"What the?" The CSI's arrived at the local middle school were a bomb had gone off leaving a man in critical condition and six students in serious condition.

"Apparently the students had been helping with the student council and were waiting for their rides. John doe came out of the building and heard a ticking and went to check it out, then well boom."

This was the first case in a while and the fact that kids had gotten hurt made all the csi's tense.

"Well let's get to work. Sara and Cath try to talk to the students. Warrick and I'll get the remainder of the bomb. Nick do the perimeter."

"Christ," stated Sara.

"I hear yah, at least it didn't go off at three then we'd be dealing with more injured kids."

"Cath, what kind of a freak would plant a bomb in a middle school."

"Our job is to find out. My car or yours?"

"Mine's in the dealer."

"Mine it is."

"Hey Warrick when was the last time we worked a bombing with kids involved?"

"I'd have to say..."

"Guys get back to work."

"I hate working these cases especially with Griss, he gets so irritated," complained nick.

"Holey $#!." The first student looked like two face, one side of their body was slightly burnt and covered with ash, with cuts all over and black bruises.

"So do you think you could tell us what happened." She looked up at the three people standing by her side and the woman nodded.

Flashback

I looked over to where a man with a blue t-shirt, and jeans was crouching over something, then Boom. All went black for a second and when I opened my eyes I was sprawled on the concrete. I moved my toes, so I knew I could walk. I looked on my right and Bob was about 5 feet away and looking back. On my left was Ren and she had her eyes closed and there was a trickle of blood going down her face.

"Ren! Ren!" Her pinky moved so I assumed she was still alive. I look back at bob I was fighting to stay awake, and it looked as if bob was too.

"Fred?" Bob nodded as to say Fred was fine, and that's when I passed out.

The other kids' stories were pretty much the same, but that's not why Cath was so upset.

Flashback

They had interviewed the first kid, Taylor, and were planning on just asking the next one a few questions. The second one was asleep, but their family was in the room attentive to every heartbeat. The third one however was awake, she had at least seven people at her side. Her parents were apparently divorced, but the fact that her father seemed to care only as much as her step father. Her step father cared a great deal, but as she was not his child he couldn't possibly have cared as much for her as his own flesh and blood. The victim's mother, Jane, spent the night at the hospital with her daughter, while her ex didn't even stay until dark. The two csi's knew this because they saw him leave.

End of flashback.

The ride to the lab was silent with thoughts, of how this had happened and why. They two could only hope that the other's had more decisive evidence.

"So team what have we got?"

"Well, other than hospitalized witnesses, we got nothing. But someone is bringing over their clothes."

"I got some remains of a pipe bomb, but that's about it."

"Well I guess we struck gold on the most high profile case with the least evidence," commented nick.

"And with the lab so backed up with the dayshift's serial, we won't get results of any kind for at least a day." And with that and some small talk, the night shift checked out early.
