It was love at first sight, and I'm not joking. It was Spring 30, the first year I had been in charge of Callen Ranch, and I was getting ready feed the chickens. I walked out the door, and he was standing right there. He said, "Hi, my name is Kai. I just stopped by to tell you that, starting tomorrow, I'm going to be working at the beach stand, selling food. Tomorrow is the all-you-can-eat buffet, and I would love it if you came!" And with that, he walked down my road and off the ranch. I kind of stood there for a while, and then it hit me. Crap! Need to feed the chickens! And with that, I ran off. Well, as you might have guessed, I was dressed very nicely, because I was going to see Kai! And, as usual, I was ten minutes late for the beach stand opening. I had heard the other villagers talking about how my clock must be off by ten minutes, so obviously I'm late for every festival. The beach opening went smoothly, with only one near-screw-up. I had decided to go down to the waterfront, to see the sun setting. I hadn't seen Galen, who was sitting on his lawn chair, fishing. Galen and I don't get along very well, because I cannot stand fish. Once, Galen put a fish in my shoe, and when I put it on, fish guts got all over my foot, and wrecked my shoes. I cried because it made me so angry. Anyways, Galen saw me by the waterfront, and he decided that he would play a little joke on me. I waded waist-deep into the warm water, and, not thinking, had left my shoes on the beach. While I wasn't looking, Galen put a few of his bait worms in my shoes. When I came back, I was about to put my shoes on, when suddenly, "Hey Alice! Don't put those on!" I turned around, and Kai was running across the beach. He took my shoes, tipped them upside down, and out tumbled at least twenty worms! I was seething as I walked up to Galen. As I walked up behind his chair, I put on a straight face. "Oh, Galen, I found something that belongs to you. And you know what I did? I dropped those worms on his head, and walked back to Kai. He was having a laughing fit, and so was Rock. "Nice one Alice!" said Rock, who was my best friend. "Thanks." I replied.
