"Will we meet again sometime?"
"Sure we will."
"Promise?"
"I promise. Now go, and don't look back."
Chihiro matured from a bratty, whinny, spoiled child that never worked a day in her life to a confident, hard-working girl during her trip to the Spirit World.
Even though she matured greatly, ("In a day," her parents had told her.) she was still ten years old.
And she was still naïve.
When Haku had told her to not look back, she thought he was speaking on literal terms.
Don't look back, don't turn your head, don't look back.
I guess you can't blame Chihiro for believing Haku. She was in a world full of magic, anything could happen if she looked back. And Haku was her friend, a good one, and also her love.
He wouldn't lie to her, ever. A promise is a promise, right?
Don't look back…
But as she grew up, and matured more and more, she came to a realization that Haku's words were anything but literal.
Don't look back… and then the unspoken words, on your memories.
I mean, it's been years! Where is he?
Maybe Haku thought her life would be perfect after leaving the Spirit World, with a happy family, good friends, and maybe even a new love.
(But her parents divorced a year after her journey, and while she had some good friends, they weren't enough to fill the gaping whole in her heart that had a note saying, "Haku was here.")
Don't look back, don't you dare.
Maybe he thought she'd forget about his world.
(Haku's smarter than that! She'd never forget.)
Don't look back,
Where is he?
Maybe he'd thought she'd hold onto his promise, forever.
(But as the years, months, weeks, days, hours, minutes, seconds went by, without him, Chihiro couldn't help but feel her heart [Or what was still left,] shatter.)
Don't look back, don't turn your head…
Maybe he's not going to fulfill that childish, naïve promise…
Don't look back, don't turn your head, don't you dare!
Her memories haunt her, she can't help it-
She may not have not looked back, physically…
…You looked back! I told you! He's not there!
Ohai, guys.
I've been pretty depressed lately, and while I was looking for something to do, I found my dvd of Spirited Away and then I started reading Spirited Away fanfiction... and yeah,
The idea just wouldn't get out of my head.
