"Cosima?" Delphine called out as she rose from their shared bed eagerly and pulled on the aforementioned woman's dressing gown. (She'd practically adopted it now after wearing it so much.) "Where are you?" She called to no response.

Delphine frowned and checked the clock; nine twenty, she knew Cosima would well and truly be awake by now, especially on Christmas. Cosima had hardly been able to contain her excitement the night before, almost begging Delphine to let her open a present and stay up till midnight.

Now, moving through the small apartment to the main room she expected to find her significant other sitting on the floor by their small Christmas tree impatiently waiting to open her presents, the first one already in her hands as her fingers itched to tear off the wrapping paper.

But she was surprised to find that Cosima was not waiting for her there.

Delphine's frown deepened and she moved through the apartment at a quicker pace, clearing the large desk to check the kitchen and then going back to check the bathroom. But Cosima wasn't to be found.

Delphine sat on the bed, her Christmas morning cheer waning since she couldn't find her lover to share it with.

Just as Delphine went to reach for her phone to call her missing girlfriend, something bumped the door. She stood up and walked slowly towards it but before she got there, the door opened and Cosima appeared.

"Cosima!" Delphine greeted cheerfully, "Where have you been?!" She asked, wrapping her arms around the woman before she could even turn around

"Delphine! You're awake…" Cosima almost whined.

"Merry Christmas to you too." Delphine commented dryly.

"Merry Christmas!" Cosima said cheerfully, turning around and pushing a soft fluffy bundle at her.

"What is- a puppy?!" Delphine laughed, "You got me a puppy?!"

"Yeah, I thought it looked just like you," Cosima grinned, her tongue just barely poking out between her teeth in that ever so charming and adorable way that Delphine had become accustomed to seeing.

"What breed is it?"

"A cocker spaniel!" Cosima exclaimed with cheer, patting the pups long, floppy, brown ears, her grin growing wider into a beam as the small animal tilted its head into her hand.

"And why do you think it looks like me?" Delphine asked curiously, holding the puppy up near her face for comparison.

Cosima giggled before answering, "You both have the most adorable faces, and hey, you have gorgeous curly hair and so does he!"

"He? So it's a boy…" Delphine said more to the dog than Cosima.

"Mhm, now you have to name him, what are you gonna call him?" Cosima asked excitedly.

"Hmm," Delphine turned the pup towards and then scrunched up her face as he enthusiastically licked her, prompting infectious giggles from Cosima.

Delphine bent down and gently placed the small creature down on the ground, watching it as he wandered around the apartment, occasionally sniffing a few things.

"Well?"

"Copper," Delphine decided.

"Copper?"

"Yep."

"I was half expecting something like 'Tesla'," Cosima joked, shrugging out of her red coat and hanging it over a chair.

Delphine just raised an eyebrow as she made her way over to the Christmas tree, "Just because you are in fields of science does not mean we have to name our pets Tesla or Nikola or something like that, I think the colour of his fur is a copper colour so Copper he shall be named," Delphine justified, sitting on the floor by the tree and pulling the fluffy puppy into her lap, "Now, are you going to open your presents?"

"Oh yes!" Cosima bounded over and skidded around the table to land on the floor next to Delphine, "Me first!" Cosima cried happily and picking up an oddly shaped parcel.
