Fire and Ice- After the Conversation

I do not own the Twilight books, or any of the characters. That goes to Stephanie Meyer, who I hold a personal grudge against for dreaming this up before me….oh who am I kidding!? She's the best! Go Stephenie!

Jacobs POV

I didn't know the tune he was humming. It was weird, but I think it was piano music or something like that.

Bella sighed and curled up into a ball, snuggling into my chest. Fantasies swirled in my head, of me kissing her, how her soft lips would taste…Edward hummed louder.

"Edward," Bella said. Her voice was clear, so I thought that she had woken up, and was looking for her bloodsucker, but he didn't say anything. He just kept humming. Bella shifted again.

"Edward," she sighed. Then it hit me.

Bella talked in her sleep.

How did I not know that?

Edward chuckled, but I ignored him.

"I love you Edward," Bella sighed. I felt like I was going to puke. Or cry.

"I guess your brilliant idea back-fired dog," Edward said smugly. I didn't answer him, because he was party right. This had backfired. I hadn't planned for this. Now I was going to have to listen to Bella talk about her bloodsucker all night. Great. Then Bella rolled over and snuggled tight into my chest.

"Not entirely," I told him, my voice as smug as his was, "I'm the one she's snuggled up to, not you." He hissed quietly, but I ignored him. He wouldn't attack me. We both knew it.

I couldn't get to sleep. This was a first. Usually, I was out as soon as I closed my eyes. I didn't want to admit it, even though I knew the leech could hear it in my thoughts, but I think it was because of Bella. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity. I wanted it to last for as long as it could. More embarrassing, I kept hopping that Bella would say my name in her sleep, but she never did. It was all just her superior bloodsucker, who was sitting silent and smug in the corner. Still humming. Yeesh, You'd think he would have gotten bored by now.

"Jacob, my Jacob," Bella mumbled. My eyes popped open. Edward stopped humming. We were both silent, but Bella didn't say anything else. Her breathing was deep and even.

"Not so superior now, are you bloodsucker?" I taunted Edward. He didn't answer, so I continued, "I knew that she was in love with me to."

"You don't know anything!" He snapped at me. Then he closed his eyes and leaned his head back against the tent, and started humming again.

"Neither do you," I muttered quietly. He couldn't read her mind. He was in the dark, just like me.

"I wouldn't go that far," Edward murmured.

Whatever, I thought. I didn't show ant sing if response. Big surprise there. He never answered me when he knew I was right. I sighed and closed my eyes, ignoring Bella talking about her bloodsucker once more, and Edwards soft humming. I needed a good rest if I wanted to be ready for tomorrow.
