The door had barely swung shut on its hinges before Kadaj was all over Reno, grasping with slender fingers curved into raking claws.
"Give it to me!"
Reno growled, a sound deep and low in his throat. It was a warning, one Kadaj paid no attention too. His need was too great, he was willing to rip Reno's soft skin to shreds to get what he wanted.
Reno held up the bag, a nondescript brown paper, and Kadaj snapped at the air with his teeth, reaching for the bag, but it was just inches out of his reach. He looked into Reno's green eyes and begged.
"Reno, please… I need it, so bad, I burn!"
Reno nodded. He understood all too well, and so he handed the bag over. Kadaj snatched it from his hand, and Reno hissed as the sharp paper cut his palm. Kadaj paid no attention, as he shredded the bag and pulled out three syringes, each full of a deep blue liquid, swirled with green. It was tainted mako, Kadaj's drug of choice. The three syringes didn't seem like much, but they'd hold Kadaj over for a few weeks… Just long enough for Reno to earn enough extra dough to buy him three more. It was a vicious cycle, but one Reno had long become accustomed too.
Kadaj picked up one of the syringes, eyeing the liquid with an almost fanatical gaze, before closing his eyes and pushing the needle just a tiny fraction under the bruised skin around the bend of his elbow. Reno winced at the bruises, some still dark, some fading to a sickly yellow. There were needle tracks too, way too many for Reno to count.
It hurt him to see the bliss that spread across Kadaj's face as he injected just three drops into his arm. His breathing, which had been ragged only moments before, slowed and smoothed out, and his eyes, usually filmed over when he needed the mako, opened to reveal that they were bright and focused, and he grinned at Reno. The change was amazing, and Reno felt sick to his stomach.
Kadaj rose to his feet, suddenly looking as if he belonged in the semi-plush surroundings of Reno's apartment. He walked slowly to Reno, his hips swinging and his lips curving up into a seductive smile as he showed Reno with his eyes and body language exactly what he wanted from the red-head. Reno could never resist, and Kadaj knew it.
But later, lying with the little sated cherub in his arms, Reno felt the tears well up in his eyes and slip silently down his pale cheeks. Kadaj shifted in his sleep, mumbling incoherently. Reno glanced down at him and sighed as the wings that graced Kadaj's back stirred slightly in a nonexistent wind, wings only Reno could see.
And another feather fell away, turning black and disappearing as Kadaj died a little more inside.
