A/N: All of the thanks to Daffy (A Tale Of Brothers/suguelya) for the helpful critique. I would have eventually deleted this otherwise.

Happy Birthday

It was Yuri's birthday today. Flynn didn't have time to buy him a present, but Yuri was always difficult to shop for, anyway. He never wanted anything. Then again, Flynn never asked for any present, either. It was just how they grew up. They never had money to spare on birthday presents, growing up in the lower quarter, but that didn't matter. They always had each other, and that was enough.

Flynn did want to buy his friend a birthday cake, though. He would have made him one himself, but Yuri refused to eat any of his food. He didn't mind.

Chocolate, or strawberry? Flynn couldn't decide, so he went with both in the end. He remembered Yuri liked sweet things.

It had been a while since Flynn had come down to visit the lower quarter. People were surprised to see him, but they shouldn't be so surprised. It was Yuri's birthday, so of course he had to come down to visit.

Flynn set the cakes down on the small wooden table in Yuri's room. He found it a bit silly how reluctant Mrs. Brown had been to give him a knife when he asked for one downstairs, but he promised he would bring it back. He needed a knife to cut the cake for Yuri's birthday.

Repede didn't come with him, which made Flynn a little sad, but he knew that the poor dog wasn't feeling well lately, so it was okay. Yuri would understand.

Flynn had a piece of strawberry cake. It was really good. He cut a piece of chocolate cake for Yuri, but he hadn't eaten any of it. Oh well. It was Yuri's birthday after all, so it didn't bother him.

The bed was small and not very soft, but it was Yuri's birthday today and Flynn promised to stay the night.

The pillow still smelled like Yuri.
