Matt wasn't sure what he'd do without Turtle.

He was fairly sure, after all, that it was the slow-moving animal who had found Daphne for him – or at least had something to do with the coincidence of meeting her at the airport. He was also pretty certain that Turtle was continuing to monitor their life together and ensuring that all went smoothly.

As smoothly as was possible at any rate.

But at the same time, he wondered if all this would have happened without his precious reptile? After all, he had seen he future and Daphne was in it. So was Turtle. Did that mean that without one, the other wouldn't be in his life either?

It was an odd notion, and one that he couldn't quite bring himself to think of in more detail . . .

After all, he loved his Turtle and he loved his Daphne. He also loved his Molly and his Daniella. Life without any of them wouldn't be the same.

But particularly not life without Turtle, he decided. Because he was sure that without Turtle there would be no Daphne, no Daniella and no family for Molly.

Yes. Turtle was the most important thing in his life right now. Because Turtle was special. And Matt loved Turtle.

Daphne wasn't sure what to think about Turtle.

She got that it was important to Matt – though he never really explained why, just saying something about "Fate" and "Love" and other irritating words like that – but she also felt an odd connection to it herself.

Almost as though Turtle was imperative to her life with Matt.

She didn't like that feeling – the feeling that there was someone else with a large measure of control over her life, more specifically a part of her life that she thought should be entirely her own.

Daphne was of two minds about the creature, she decided at last, having been unable to make her mind up one way or the other.

It was too slow. That she didn't like. And it had an odd sense of power to it. That she also disliked.

But she did like the fact that Matt liked it. That it made Matt feel special and gave him a sense of togetherness – his words not hers.

She loved Matt. Therefore, she felt she ought to have a small measure of respect for Turtle, if nothing else.

Yes, she respected Turtle because he was one of the most important things in Matt's life. And Matt was special. And Daphne loved Matt.

Molly thought she liked Turtle.

Because Turtle liked the same music as her. It was an odd thing to think, but she was absolutely adamant about it. Turtle was her fellow music fan, and she could tell because he would always stare at her until she took out her earphones and turned on the CD player. Then he would shift from stubby little leg to stubby little leg as though dancing . . . she was sure of it.

She knew Matt loved Turtle.

She knew Daphne had a strange sense of respect for Turtle.

So yes, Turtle was special, because as Matt had confided to her; without Turtle there would be no family, and as strange and disjointed as they were, Molly loved her new family almost as much as her old one.

So yes, Molly liked Turtle. After all, he had good taste in music.
