Selena sat silent on her bed. She was in a dark, dark place, and she couldn't get out.She reached into the drawer and pulled it out. The blade shone in the moonlight. She promised herself she wouldn't. But it was so easy.
Not here, though. Any place but here.
She stepped outside her front door. The frost was so cold that it numbed her. She liked that.
It was only a short walk from her home to the park.
No one would find her there.
The leaves crunched under her bare feet. The gravel cut into her skin, but she didn't care.
She found the tree with the carving and stood under it.
She took it from her pocket and pressed it against her wrist, grimacing as she did so. A thin line of blood began to appear. It trickled slowly down her arm, running past the other lacerations. She did it once … twice … three times more.
For now she felt better, but she knew it wouldn't last long.
She thought she could hear footsteps, but no one came to the park at night.
Except him.
But it wouldn't be.
It couldn't.
"Why, Selena?" he spoke quietly, but his voice echoed through the trees.
She dropped the knife in shock.
No, not him. Not now. Not here. Any place but here. Please.
"Why?" he repeated.
"Leave me, Nicholas,"
"I don't want to,"
"You had no problem doing it last time,"
"I want an answer,"
"Well too bad. It's none of your business,"
He picked up the bloodstained knife and tossed it into a trash can.
"You're pathetic," That stung.
"Just leave me, Nicholas"
"No," he walked up to her and touched her arm. She flinched, but she didn't pull away. He wiped the blood away with his fingers, but it still flowed from the fresh cuts. He lifted her face with his finger and kissed her lips softly. Electricity surged through her body.
"Come on. I can fix this. I can fix you," He took her hand.
"But I'm not broken,"
"I can fix you," he repeated. He led her away from the tree with the carving.
"Where are you taking me?"
"Anywhere. Any place but here,"
