a date with fairy tail

by DeathberryLove

"I won't let this happen!"

"What are you thinking you idiot?"

Cue impromptu flying tables and benches as Natsu and Gray expressed their anger and disbelief in wrecking furniture.

"Guys, guys, it's not that big of a deal." Lucy hesitantly tried to pacify the two raging boys in front of her, shielding a very unimpressed Erza from them.

Erza crossed her arms against her white blouse and her eyes narrowed over Lucy's shoulders. Natsu and Gray remained unaffected and Erza sighed. Her boys were growing.

"Why would you even consider going on a date with him?"

"He's too shady a character – every time he shows up he's got a different identity or a different motive. He's every mysterious guy that we've seen. That's too risky!"

Lucy smacked Natsu and Gray on the head. "I thought we established he's good now. Guys, you're ruining this for Erza!"

Natsu relented slightly. Gray began stripping.

"Fine!" Natsu declared, looking distasteful. "But if you're going on a date then you're going to be going on a date in here."

"This is awkward!" Happy announced with a grin.

"Shut up baka neko!" Lucy pulled on Happy's tail and dragged him back down behind the bar to join the rest of the onlookers that were staring intently at the seated couple.

"What are they talking about?" somebody hissed.

"Macao, you growing old and deaf too?"

"Ow, Wakaba's on your left you moron!"

"Gray, clothes."

"Gah!"

"They're holding hands!"

A chorus of "oooh"s resounded through the line of crouching observers.

"Hey, does somebody smell something burning?"

"…Natsu!" Gray yelped as steam began coming out of Natsu's ears.

"AH I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE – OI YOU!" Natsu roared, leaping over the bar and stomping towards the table.

Lucy let out an exasperated sigh, "I'm glad this wasn't my date."

"Like you would have a date!" cackled Happy. Lucy wanted to throttle him.

"HOLDING HANDS ALREADY? SUSPISCIOUS! WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO, PUT ANOTHER BINDING – "

"Natsu." Erza's deathly whisper cut across his rant.

"…aye?"

"We're arm wrestling."

Natsu blinked at the interlocked hands and elbows that were digging at the table.

"Natsu! This is our chance!" Gray leapt over the bar as well and raced towards them. "Jellal! I'll be your opponent!"

"Erza's getting angry." Cana said mildly as the redhead's punches sent the fire wizard soaring through the air.

Natsu fatedly bashed into Gajeel who was sitting in a dark corner, previously uncomfortably poring over one of Levy's heavy tomes.

"PICKING A FIGHT, HUH?" Gajeel whacked him over the head with the book.

"Hey!" squealed Levy indignantly from behind the bar and Jet and Droy rose to fight for her honour.

Gray charged towards the table and Erza gave him a good kick. "Stop ruining my night!" She then proceeded to jam Jeral's head into the table, splintering it. "And you! If you hadn't given in to your hatred this wouldn't be happening!"

Havoc ripped across the beer hall as projectiles hit innocent bystanders and everybody jumped out of hiding.

Natsu and Gray tackled Jellal to the ground just as he managed to get up and Erza gave them the stoniest evil-eye before diving in to the squabble.

"I'm not done with you!" and Gajeel joined in, bringing Jet and Droy.

Lucy cautiously peeked over the bar, Happy fluttering beside her.

"NATSU DRAGNEEL!" Jellal was yelling as Gray's fist made contact with his face. Erza re-equipped and kneed Gray swiftly before Natsu knocked her over as he went flying from the impact of Gajeel's iron fist.

Lucy didn't know whether to cry or laugh. "I don't think he's going to have any problems fitting in."
