I step out onto the pass confidently, it is rock I can feel my way here

Vibrations pass though my feet and I feel the anchorage of the rock

The cannonball smashes into the cliff above us. I can finally see what's going on!

I let the vibrations pulse to me and back before I strike

I twist and wave my arms in a well-practiced movement

The cliff above us juts out as I bend the rock it's made of

The vibrations it sends out clarify my surroundings

We walk on now that the danger is behind us, or so we thought

There is a break in the rock a break far to big for me to earthbend

"Stand back" my friend, says softly She begins to bend the water surrounding us.

I feel her moving through the earth. She is truly a master bender

Soon we are walking on the ocean floor.

We are protected by a dome of air my friend Aang is bending.

I am scared, terrified actually

If they stop bending… I can't swim

The others gasp, "What happened?" I ask in fear. I felt nothing out of the ordinary.

"It's a thing!" my… best friend, boyfriend, unrelated brother calls out, "Very helpful"

I don't know what we're facing. My feet are wet. MY feet are wet!

The others are distracted. Whatever is attacking us is preoccupying them.

I lift us to the surface. Now we rest on a small island of stone.

I have no idea what to do. I feel so…

Blind

"Toph! Run!" My friend Katara has made a…a… I don't know what it is.

I'm the only one on the stone island now. "It's an ice bridge! Toph come on!"

My…boyfriend… I step onto the 'ice bridge'

I can't see a thing. A battle rages around me while I sand helpless and blind in the middle

"Follow the sound of my voice!" "It's hard to ignore!"

Suddenly I'm falling. I'm drowning. I'm dying.

"I'll save you Toph!" the voice of my savior my lover

I kick and flail around trying to stay above the surface. Then a hand wraps around me.

I'm safe. "Thank you Sokka my hero!" I kiss his cheek.

Or her cheek as it turns out. Suki was the one who had saved me. I hate being blind.

As she swims with me holding on desperately I hear the others fighting.

We're at the other side. I fall to my knees and put my hands on the earth I love.

I did cross the past but…

I feel worse than before

I feel really and truly blind.

I will not cross out of my comfort zone again. "Hey Toph!" Sokka…

He runs up to me. He hugs me.

Well maybe I'll cross over one more time.
