"The Christmas Gift"
Rating: K
Disclaimer: Bones doesn't belong to me, but to a bunch of rich guys in California.
Author's Note: I know I'm a little late with a Christmas story, but hey who doesn't love a good Christmas story?
line break=flashback
Resting his legs on the coffee table, Special Agent Seeley Booth relaxed into the couch. Before him sat three of his most favorite people in the world, and he proudly claimed them as his family. Parker was visiting for the holidays from England, and next to him were Bones and their daughter, Christine.
He always loved this time of year, but as his family grew so did his love for Christmas. It had taken some time, but his wife had also come to love it too, though, she could do without the religious part she told him every year.
When they first met she had disliked Christmas, but she started slowly participating in events as they spent more years together. After three years as partners, she even enjoyed Christmas with her dad, brother and his family.
It was one of his favorite Christmases too.
It was several days after Christmas when Booth entered into his partner's office. Bones had been on a trip the last few days, and he had been away with Parker.
She slowly turned her head away from her computer as she looked up at him with a small smile. "New case?" she asked.
"No, I just stopped by to give you your Christmas present."
"You didn't have to give me anything. The Christmas tree was more than enough, Booth."
"It's not much. I saw it and it made me think of you." He handed her a small rectangular box.
In her very technical way, she opened his present. She looked up at him with astonishment. There in the box, lay a pair of crazy socks. Not just any pair of crazy socks, but ones decorated with a little skulls and hearts.
Shaking his head to clear his reverie, Booth smiled when he saw those same crazy socks on his wife's feet. He caught his wife's eyes and winked at her.
He allowed his mind to wonder once again as he remembered the first time he noticed her wearing the socks.
Booth lazily stretched as the alarm blared into the quiet room. He reached over and hit the snooze button. Today was going to be a long day, and he hoped for those extra five minutes of sleep. "What was five minutes more when you can lie in bed with a beautiful woman at your side?" he thought to himself.
It was then he noticed the empty space next to him. For a moment, he panicked as he thought she might have run away afraid of last night. As he tried to settle his racing heart, he heard noises coming from the kitchen area.
He stopped at the end of hallway, and watched her as she made some coffee. After last night's love making, he had gained a new appreciation for his partner's body. She was leaning over the counter now sipping a glass of coffee seemingly unaware of his presence.
He smiled as he saw her wearing one of his shirts with his favorite pair of cufflinks that he had gotten as a present from her a few years ago. Then he looked down at her legs, and it was then he noticed her socks. She was wearing the crazy socks he had given her that same Christmas. Somehow he knew, the two of them would be fine.
"You like?" she quietly said and if he listened carefully with a little coyness.
He did indeed as he reached for her, and with a smile on his face, he kissed all doubts away.
"Hey Dad, the last present is yours from Bones," Parker said, breaking him out of his daydream.
"I wonder what she could get a guy who has everything," he responded.
"Just open it, Dad."
With the fervor a child, he opened the present, and like that Christmas long ago he looked up in shock at his wife. In the box, lay a pair of newborn crazy socks just like hers. As he looked at her waiting for confirmation, she nodded her head with a wisp of a smile.
Next year there would be new member of his family.
The End
