River sighed and crossed her arms over her chest. This was ridiculous! Not to mention embarrassing... She leaned against the wall of the cell and stared at the table across the hall through the bars, well actually she was staring at her handbag that was on the table. She pushed a few of the golden curls that had fallen out of her elegant up do out of her face and cursed her choice of evening dress. There was absolutely no way of hiding anything in this dress, so she'd settled for bringing the necessities she never traveled without in her handbag...vortex manipulator, hallucinogenic lipstick, and a few other things she always kept with her. And now there they were, in her handbag... on the opposite side of the bars... and here she was, in an evening gown, in 1952, stuck in a jail cell, in Paris.

She was just starting to contemplate some clever way of getting free when the answer appeared right in front of her... literally. River grinned as the blue police box materialized before her eyes accompanied by the familiar vroop vroop of the engines. River rolled her eyes (will he ever take the breaks off when he lands?) but she was still smiling. The door of the TARDIS was flung open and the Doctor strolled out. He leaned against the side of the TARDIS, crossing his arms.
"Hello River."
"Hello Sweetie." She replied with her usual greeting "you are getting good! I didn't even get around to calling for you yet!" she said with a smile. He didn't look amused.
"Have you completely lost your mind!? The Louvre? Seriously? You tried to rob the Louvre!?" River shrugged.
"I was going to return it..." he rolled his eyes at her "Darling, I'm a time traveler too you know, I could technically take it and return it in under a minute... would have too, if it weren't for..."

"For?" the Doctor pressed her to continue. She huffed and gave him a look.

"for the guard choosing a rather inconvenient time for a bathroom break... I may have run into him on his way back to the desk...apparently I underestimated him.. and overestimated the dress.." she added as an after thought. "Now, care to break me out of here so we can go?" He sighed and crossed the small hall to her cell, pulling his sonic screwdriver out of his pocket.

"Before I let you out... care to tell me just exactly why you were stealing art from the Louvre?" River gave him her most mischievous smile.
"Sweetie, I couldn't possibly tell you that!... spoilers!" He made an exasperated noise, but soniced the cell door open and stood aside to let her out anyway. Any previous annoyance he had had at having to break her out of a cell in 1952 had vanished from his features and River could tell he was just as anxious for a good adventure as she was. "come on, love, let's go see some art." she said taking his arm and grabbing her handbag off the table as they headed back to the TARDIS.

"you didn't by the way..." he said under his breath, as the TARDIS's door swung shut behind them.
"sorry? Didn't what?" she replied giving him a quizzical look.
"the dress... you didn't overestimate it... I like it." River laughed and the TARDIS dematerialized from the prison block, leaving behind an empty cell and a lot of difficult questions for the night watchman to answer.
