Air benders are supposed to be happy. Joyous. Light hearted.
But Aang wasn't.
Infact, I don't think anyone's seen (if anyones seen one at all, over the last hundred years) such a depressed air bender. His head lay limply in his hands, sitting on a yellowed patch of grass by a large oak tree.
Why was he the avatar? He didn't want it. He never asked for it. He was perfectly content as simple monk, just an air bender.
But it was his fault that the war was here. If he hadn't run away, maybe this all could've been avoided.
"Whats with the heavy footsteps, Twinkles?"
Toph sat down next to him, throwing nuts into her mouth. Her freshly washed clothes gathered dirt and dust, and her freshly done hair was coming undone. Katara wouldn't be happy.
"It's just this avatar stuff" groaned Aang, voice muffled by his hands. "It's so hard!"
"Did you expect it to be easy?"
Aang continued, ignoring the little interruption.
"I'm only half way through earth bending, and I haven't even begun fire bending! What if I'm not ready? What if I mess it up? What if I forget my pants?"
"Twinkles, I don't know about the last one, but you'll be ready. We'll get there with earth bending, and as for fire bending...well, when you fight fire with fire, you only get burnt."
Aang smiled a little at his Sifu's wise words. She really was smarter then she let on.
"But what about after the war?" Aang went on. "The monks told me that been the avatar would be tough. I need to go to meetings, and represent towns and villages, and be a perfect role model! What if I make mistakes?"
Toph could only roll her eyes at the air benders constant worrying.
"Listen, Twinkle Toes" Toph said fiercly. "After the war, I'll stick with you, and help you out. And when- yes Aang, that's when not if- you make mistakes, trust me, I'll be there to tell you about them and rub them in your face."
Toph stood up, threw away the rest of her nuts, and dusted herself off.
"So quit worrying." She concluded. "It's really bugging me."
She turned on her heel, and walked away. Aang lifted his head, and watched her retreating figure. He smiled.
It was nice to have a friend like Toph.
Hehehe I like the advice Toph gave. Hopefully she wasn't too OOC.
