The Lance Corporal sat at his desk by candle light, closely examining reports and other documents. He inwardly scoffed. The damned military police still quietly argued for custody of that stupid brat.
They'd send him back before the first day was out.
The documents had been passed to him from Erwin, the commander wanting his opinion on the various papers. He had given them to him lightheartedly; the papers weren't even official. Just small notes from various members of the Military Police. After reading each one he would proceed to crumble it up and lazily toss it into a waste basket. He then moved on to the official documents. Things he had to sign, things he had to write his opinion on. Expedition reports.
There were so many.
Levi rubbed his eyes, positive that his dark circles were more visible than usual.
He could really use some caffeine, he decided.
Right on cue, he heard a light knock on his slightly cracked door. He lifted his head, his usual stoic expression in place. A head of strawberry blonde peeked in, large golden eyes smiling. He lowered his eyes back to his desk.
"Come in, Petra."
She entered the room and approached his desk, her leather boots clicking against the wooden floor. He met her golden eyes again. She produced a hot steaming cup of coffee from behind her back and gently sat the teacup and saucer upon his desk.
"I figured you might need this."
She knew him so well.
Levi muttered a "thank you" before grasping the cup by the rim and lifting his arm to bring the cup to his lips. Petra couldn't help but smile at the strange way he drank.
He sat the cup back on his desk, feeling suddenly relieved. It was exactly how he liked it. Only Petra Ral was able to make such a great cup of coffee.
"If you need some more just let me know, alright Captain?"
He nodded before asking, "Why are you up at this hour, Petra? I'm sure you don't have paperwork to do." He raised an eyebrow questionably.
Petra's cheeks tinted a light pink, her embarrassment completely noticeable. She held her hands behind her back.
"I f-figured you'd need some help if you were going to be up late, Captain." She smiled sadly. "And being by yourself at night can be a little lonely, at least to me, that is."
He slowly blinked, looking down at his documents. He was of course touched that she would sacrifice sleep for him. He would never show it on his face, though. He chose instead to look back up at her and stoically say, "Thank you very much, Petra. It means a lot."
She smiled again before turning and leaving the room. But before she was completely out the door he added, "And Petra?"
He heard her utter a small "Yes?"
"Feel free to call me Levi when we're alone."
She smiled again. "Understood"
Then she was gone.
Later that night when she was preparing to retire, Petra glanced once more into Levi's room. There he lay with his head on his desk, having fell asleep.
She had expected this.
With a smile Petra entered the room holding a thick woolen blanket in her arms. She removed the pen from his limp hand and placed it back into its well. She unfolded the clean blanket and draped it around his shoulders, tucking it around him snugly.
She smoothed his hair once before whispering "Good night, Levi" and blowing out the candle.
She retreated to her own room, wishing the Lance Corporal a good night's rest.
Just a little drabble because I needed some Rivetra. I will write a better and longer one soon I promise. I'm also working on some SAO and DGM fics.
