BEACH ESCAPE
A mix rescue story of Free Willie/Flipper/Journaling
By: Claire N. Teague
(Surf'n USA—plays)
Clear cross around the year 1980's on the coasts of Miami, Florida, A family of 5 lived in a large mansion near the beach. The parents were from England but raised their daughters in America. They had a golden retriever named Sandy. Their Mother's sister's sons were actors and they were spoiled completely, the women were high quality carriers in animal rescuing, while one was a vet the other was a scientist. Their husbands preferred other carriers, the girls' father, Mack Douglas, was Zoologist and their Uncle David Douglas was an actor in Orlando. One of the sisters was Tiffany, she preferred to sing new songs and act by the nearby theaters, to her sister's reputation was as close as her mother's, Felicity was to be a junior Zoologist and a Vet, by following in her parents' footsteps. Tiffany Douglas struck rich, but she was feeling a little glum about it, with many fans and attention, the pressure was too much. She decided to return home and work as a cashier in the family Zoo's giftshop, while Felicity had fun in the research and rescue center.
Narrator: On June 9th, Felicity was in her fishing boat to keep an eye out for Dolphin hunters and poachers, a man who's been really annoying her let out his gunshot and scared a group of dolphins near the shore. Felicity watched as the dolphins split from one another, because she knew that dolphins never like to be alone, separated unsecure of one another. The leader was a mother dolphin who died, and her calf came on the side shore of Felicity's beach.
Dane(yells): Here! Here! Felicity? Have you seen a baby Dolphin calf swimming around here?
Felicity: On my property I might have, Dane, but you have sailed over your borders long enough to kill endangered species, such as a group of harmless dolphins. Don't you know its against the law to poacher or kill dolphins?
Dane(smiles, sharply): Do I care? Not for a million years, Sweetie. Those Dolphins has scared our fish and now it was about time I did something about it!
Felicity: Instead of killing innocent and smart creatures of the deep, why don't you and your fellers, fish somewhere else? Beat it! And don't think about coming back, I'll call the security on you!
Dane: Garsh, you're such a sweet hotheaded Zookeeper! I bet no man can have you for a wife, and it'll never be me.
Felicity: Good!
(Dane leaves with his boat and gang, as the little dolphin swims up the shore)
Felicity(sweetly pets the dolphin calf): Hey, little guy, I'm sorry about your loss. Don't worry, I'll care for you at the Search and Rescue of Miami, Florida Zoo. (Calls her mom) Hey Mom, we have an orphaned calf, Dane shot its mother and the group swam away. Let's get him back to the tank for research and rescue. Over and out, Bye. (Hangs up, as her Aunt and Sister load the dolphin calf into the tank truck to the zoo)
Enter truck and women into the Search and Rescue Zoo Park…
Tiffany: Another one, this is the third one this year. The other two are already grown and released somewhere else safer for scientific research and Sea World attraction shows.
Felicity(Puts dolphin in the tank aquarium): Hey, big boy, it'll be okay. You're not the only dolphin here who always needs help.
Tiffany: So, you'll be his mama now? What about Dane's arrest?
Felicity: That'll be Mama's decision, I wouldn't tattle tale anymore.
Tiffany: Felicity, you are 23 years old, you are not tattling to tell the truth and situate the bad guys guilt.
Felicity: Well, he still acts like a child, instead of acting like a man. What is it with men and killing harmless, beautiful and smart creatures?
Enter Dr. Douglas, exit Tiffany Douglas…
Act 1, Scene 1, Dolphin Adoptions
Dr. Mavis Douglas: I finished releasing three sea lions near the coast, and fed the peguins, now another dolphin calf left behind? How has this happened?
Felicity: Mom, I told you what happened on the phone. Didn't you listen?
Dr. Douglas: Oh, yea, sorry sweetie. Another incoming call says that Sea World can't take anymore dolphins, it'll be like more captivity by now.
Felicity: It'll be like Charlotte's Web, only Fern isn't a farmgirl and Wilber isn't a pig that needs a fostering mother to look after him.
Dr. Douglas: Huh?
Felicity: I'll take care of him mother, I'm not doing anything this summer really and I don't go to college since I'm your student all the time.
Dr. Douglas: Well—
Felicity: Please, Mama, I've cared for 6 dolphin calves before?
Dr. Douglas: Since when at one time?
Felicity: I mean, individually. Besides, you know I can do this. Who's gonna run the zoo when you retire? But that's years away, your only as young as 45.
Dr. Douglas: Thank you, Darling, but I hear your cousins are coming down to visit and they'll really want to see you.
Felicity(annoyed, doubtfully): Sure. When they were kids they were spoiled and annoying, but as men, they'll be worse, they're not kids anymore.
Dr. Douglas: Then what are they?
Felicity: Are you serious? You twin mothers married the men, you would know how a guy would behave around a hot babe, or a sexy lady, or even a normal doll who is treated like an idol, not the way God intended women to behave or behaved to react.
Britany: Aye, you're not interested in marriage, are you?
Felicity: When shoes fly, NEVER!
Britany: You'd rather be animal control or an animal doctor like your mother? Then let's face it, Felicity Douglas shalt ever get married.
Enter Tiffany into the Zoo's Giftshop…
Tiffany(answers the phone) Hello, this is the cashier at the Miami, Florida zoo. How can I help you?
David: Hey, nice knowing you, Tiff!
Tiffany(furious): David?! how many times have I told you to stop calling me during working hours. How about never calling me back at all?
David: Then I could never contact you in any possible way, Tiff.
Tiffany: Good. Bye! And don't call me Tiff! (hangs up)
(phone rings)
Tiffany: Hello?
David: Tiff, how about going out with me to a beach party?
Tiff: No.
David: They'll be friends, other girls to be with, and beverages.
Tiff(sighs): David, I'm going to tell you the truth, I don't go out to parties where people talk about themselves and money all the time. Women where weird and ugly clothes, and their swimsuits are dreadful. How could one woman wear a bra and underwear to a party and call that a swimsuit?
David: I'll make it modest, trust me.
Tiffany: I've been to several others. They all turn out to be a bust.
David: Please, Tiff?
Tiffany: Don't call me again, when will you boys start living in reality. Its not the fairytales where you get to pick your date and pick your bride. Start living and seeing true beauty, Truth, Grace and Catholic Liturgy. Good day!
David hangs up…
Tiffany: Uh, finally, he's off.
(Exit Tiffany and closes up shop for the evening)
Exit scene, end act.
Act 1, Scene 2, From Planet Annioya
Narrator: When Tiffany, the mother twins, and Felicity returned home, Felicity still worried about the new baby dolphin at the zoo. But she was cheered up by Sandy, their dog. Tiffany argued with her sister and her aunt about David's reaction calls.
Tiffany: He's always disturbing my calls, I'm happy I escaped publicity in singing and music, too many actors or famous people who wanted to marry or date me.
Felicity: Its nice by the sea and at the zoo, animals who are loyal and dumb friends who never shout or tell you what to do. They listen and they'll rub up against you as an affectionate touch.
Dr. Douglas: Sounds like the same for some men, not all react like that in front of a gorgeous figure. Your father wanted to be a priest, before he became a married Catholic actor and a father. But then again, after he prayed, he decided that his path to life was marriage and generations through love and a soft touch of a woman's heart.
Enter Mr. Douglas and exit Aunt Britany.
Mr. Douglas: Hey, girls, I heard about the dolphin calf. The investigators are having a look on the matter.
Tiffany: Easy, its always Dane Taylor!
Felicity: The dolphin exterminator. He also tries to attract me towards his line, but I am smart to avoid his hook.
Tiffany: He's not the only fisherman on planet Annoyia.
Sandy(barks): Arff! Arff!
Felicity: What is it boy?
Mr. Douglas: Felicity, Tiffany, I encourage you girls to go to your cousin's birthday party bash at the Beach. Maybe these boys could be different, you know you're not kids anymore either, you are grown women and its time you'd go to something interactive and fun. No buts, you'll be going tomorrow. And to set a good example, you can be modest. They said you didn't have to bring anything, nothing, except yourselves.
Tiffany and Felicity enter their room…
Tiffany: Nothing, he says. Nothing but ourselves.
Felicity: I have a feeling they mean, gorgeous proper babes, who never listen to the know-it-alls and don't care a thing about what we say about how we feel.
Tiffany: For example, I told David that we were never dating, only because he always ignores my best decision and tries to kiss me to change my mind. Why is it that men always think, to kiss the girl, you change the girl's mind?
Felicity: I never heard you say that?
Tiffany: I said it when I was away in acting, but I finally realized what I was doing wrong, I had sinned against God, and went to confession. Feeling better, I decided to move back home and work here. I am happy here, and until now.
Felicity(yawns): Well, good night, sis.
Tiffany: Please, God, don't let this happen to us.
Felicity: Tiff, just go to sleep.
Tiffany: Fine. Good night.
(Exit scene, as both girls go to sleep)
Act 1, Scene 3, What kind of party is this?
Narrator: When Felicity and Tiffany went to their cousins' party, they were devastated. Feeling a little dumb entering the deck towards the beach, Tiffany wanted to close her eyes and wish she was at her giftshop without the men around. But she was there, she couldn't disobey her father.
Felicity: What kind of party is this?
Tiffany: It looks like a trash dump to me.
Felicity: More like littering on the coast.
Tiffany: Here comes trouble.
Felicity: I know that you say.
Tiffany: No, its not the boys, its Harris Daily.
Felicity: Who's Harris Daily?
Tiffany: He was my secret admirer, before David.
Enter Harris with his date, Mia Moonie.
Harris(to Tiff): Hey…if it isn't Short stuff?
Tiffany: Oh stop, not in front of my sister.
Harris(to Mia): This is the beautiful Tiffany everyone talks about?
Mia: Say…She was pretty, but look who's in Harris' arms now?
Tiffany: I have no intention of getting married or dating. I was a fool last time and I have sinned, and now I'm happy in my little zoo. Get over it!
Harris: She always had a hot temper, now David will care about her now.
Tiffany(furious): Now when I get my hands on him! I'll—
Enter David and Thomas…
David(greets, smiling): Well, you finally made it. Welcome aboard.
Tiffany: You did this on purpose!
David: Oh, what's the fuss, Tiff, how else was I going to get your attention?
Tiffany: Papa made us go. It wasn't my sister's urging.
David(puts his arms around Tiff): Hush, don't get too upset. For my birthday, I'll listen to your problems and all I want you to do is let me comfort you. Okay, come on, come on. (He guides her towards the house)
Narrator: Felicity looks up at Thomas and smiles shyly. She seems to be admiring him for some while, because she had never seen a man so beautiful and yet calm. He was wearing a shirt and plain shorts, he seemed kind and harmless. She might have been wrong about the boys now, before they were unattractive kids, but now, maybe they've changed over the years.
Thomas: So…what do you want to do?
Felicity: Well, I've never been to a beach party. I'm not sure what to do.
Thomas: Never?
Felicity: I'm not an actor who seems to think they know everything. I'm a happy and simple vet that cares for orphan baby animals for both water and land. I love the way I am, and I'll never change the way I was born.
Thomas: You could get used to that.
Felicity: Would walking by the beach shore alone be a problem?
Thomas: Not at all, shall we?
Felicity: So, we shall, (he puts his arms around her) So we shall.
(End scene)
Act 1, Scene 4, Evening Walk
Thomas: There are rumors that people believe men are trying to ruin a woman's life and carrier. Do you believe all are unwelcomed into a woman's family home?
Felicity: That rumor has gone around for a while. All men that I have known, except my dad and Uncle, are horrible. They never listen, all they think about is dating, marriage, and possibly to spoil the girl with things she wouldn't care about.
Thomas: Felicity, do you believe I am that kind of man? From a pesky boy, who turns into a bright and kind man. I am not that kind of brute.
Felicity: I do not believe so, when I see you now, my sister has been a little too dramatic.
Thomas(leans his head, to kiss her lips): Felicity—
Felicity(allows to kiss): Yes—
Thomas: Could you ever love me and give me a chance?
Felicity: I guess you are different in a good way.
Thomas: I do want to try again, and this time, I won't fail you.
Felicity: I guess I can say I forgive your childish ways. I do have a loving and caring woman's touch. At this age, I guess I'll let the past go, and date this kind of man in the flow. If you'll have me?
Thomas: Of course, I would, but only if it pleases you.
Felicity(leads to kiss again): It's like a fairytale dream come true.
Thomas: Why no, that's acting, this is real.
Felicity: One last thing I should say. I do not allow such major behavior of wealthy men spoiling or messing up with any such women of innocent and beauty. But by also, do you love animals?
Thomas: I think it would be time for me to leave Fantasy, to follow up with reality's animal rescue and care center.
(end scene)
Act 2, Scene 1, What a Fool
Narrator: At home one or the other had a great time or a despiteful time. Tiffany couldn't stop dramatically crying in front of her bedside, and Felicity was gazing at the stars in the sky while petting Sandy's soft golden fur on her bed. Finally, Tiffany stopped crying and both girls went to sleep. When Felicity woke up in the morning, there was a sunny smile on her face when her mother made breakfast and her father read the newspaper. Felicity hummed Surfing USA by the Beach Boys, for some reason she was happier than before. Tiffany was still sniffling and yet she was sitting in the living room pouting to herself.
Mr. Douglas(looks over his paper): You look sad this morning, how was your night at the party?
Tiffany(dramatically): It was horrible, I lost sight of Felicity, it was just the same as every other party crash. They all were laughing, betting at games, drinking alcohol and smoking. No one could breathe in that atmosphere.
Mr. Douglas: You're being too dramatic, my dear, calm down and since it's the weekend, there's no work to be done. Go ahead and take a rest.
Felicity: I agree, I could have been wrong about our cousins. David is a real humdinger, but Thomas…(sighs)…he's a good kisser.
Dr. Douglas: Huh? He kissed you?
Felicity: Is that how you felt at 23?
Dr. Douglas: I was married to your father then. Your dad is 46 now.
Felicity: You must have had me at 23 years old?
Mr. Douglas: Yes, we were married for three years, then we had you and Tiffany, one year after the other.
Felicity: You guys break ahead. I want to check on Wilber every second.
Mr. Douglas: Who's Wilber?
Felicity: My new baby dolphin, that's Wilber.
Enter Felicity at the gates, she unlocks the Rescue center doors…
Enter Thomas in an explorer suit…
Thomas: Am I late?
Felicity(smiles): Well, Hello Thomas. Even for you a woman loves a man in uniform.
Thomas: Well, I just have a different themed style anytime I go out. It depends on location and the celebration.
Felicity: See here, I'm in a very delicate and difficult situation. I'm a mother now, and I believe I always have been. And you must respect, even every animal has his or her own way of personal touch or trust and in offence, if they are not considered as my children. Do you understand?
Thomas: Affirmative, I am ready to roll.
Felicity: Now you do realize this isn't a fake expedition, right?
Thomas: I do realize, don't worry, the animals are real. I wasn't raised in a greenroom. I didn't start acting until I was 12.
(Felicity leads his towards the equipped room and hands him a bottle of dolphin milk ready to nurse the dolphin calf)
Felicity: Come here, Wilber, its time to eat.
(Enter a cute, bottle nosed dolphin calf, up on the bank)
Thomas(astonished): Awe…they are so cute in real life.
Felicity(feeds the bottle): That's it, careful, not too much.
Narrator: All day, after feeding the baby calf, they started swimming, playing and training the little guy. After several weeks, Thomas grew very fond of Felicity and the dolphin calf. Even into feeding the parrots together and handling the hawks or eagles. He learned to get around the zoo and memorized the whole amusement areas. Even the animal shows were his specialty for the people, it was like attraction and plays grouped in one act. Felicity has enjoyed his company, and then one day, Wilber was old enough to be transferred back into the ocean where it was safe. After becoming too attached, Thomas didn't want to allow this to happen. Felicity might have wanted to agree, but she had to honor the rules of the Research and Rescue center's reputation.
Felicity sits by Thomas as Thomas watches Wilber swim…
Thomas: Does he have to go?
Felicity: Well, I didn't know you were so concerned?
Thomas: I know I had been real-nutty in the past, but I've learned my lesson. I would rather act and care for the animals and you, than be caught in mishap of attraction and affliction.
Felicity: I'm glad that's what you chose, and I'm happy you care as much as I do. It sounds to me we are like normal parents making a big opportunity or a big responsibility for our child's future. Sounds like my parents' when we can always avoid the publicity.
Thomas(sighs): Its hard being an animal-adopting parent.
Felicity(kisses him): It will all be over soon, and there will be more animals to help who would need our loving support.
Thomas: What would be your reasons not to let him go if you had authority?
Felicity: He's a creation from God and he should live with the other fishes of the sea and have a chance to find his lost family. Dolphins are smart and they have a homing sense, he'll figure it out. I would keep him longer, but I've had this situation before. I would keep him from David and Dane Taylor, they are hard to control when they are together.
Thomas: I never liked Dane either, he always tried to track my animal investigations of my ant hills, bunny habitats and snail habitats. When I was a kid, I never dreamed to be a star, I wanted to be a scientist like my mom. My parents moved to Orlando once, and my father acted with us at some studio. Then he allowed us to come home several years later when we were grown up hearing about you and Tiffany at the Zoo.
Felicity: Well, do you want to see him released or not?
Thomas: I'll go home, I'll see you later.
Felicity(sighs): Wow, you are really attached to him. Bye, Thomas.
(end scene)
Act 2, Scene 3, For Better or for Worse?
Enter Felicity, with Wilber into a tank truck…
Felicity: Okay, boy, here we go.
Exit the truck, enter screaming and running Tiffany towards Thomas…
Tiffany: Thomas! Thomas! Stop that truck!
Thomas: Why?
Tiffany: It's a trap, Dane and David are taking Wilber to the hunting grounds!
Thomas: How did you know that?
Tiffany: I heard them talking about it overnight, they came over to our beach and were over on his dock too. We have to get them and Felicity, Dane wants to marry Felicity or is she disagrees, he'll kill Wilber for the sport.
Thomas(phones police): Hey, I'm calling from Miami Zoo and my girlfriend and her dolphin are in a trap. They don't know they are headed to their hunting spot for poaching dolphins, follow me and I'll take you there to rescue them.
(Police agrees and they follow Thomas and Tiffany in his car)
Thomas: I hope you're right.
Narrator: When they all arrived, the truck was empty and the dolphin lay dead on the side of the ocean. David and Dane bound Felicity who was crying in David's arms.
Felicity(screams): YOU MONSTER! YOU KILLED HIM!
Dane: Oh, poor baby, I'll care for you now.
Felicity: LET GO! LET GO OF ME! THOMAS!
Thomas(enters, punches Dane): You let go of my girlfriend, Dane. You're under arrest!
Dane: Says who?
Police 1: We do. You're under arrest, guilty as charged.
Narrator: As Felicity screams, Thomas hugs Felicity and leads her to the car. At home, Felicity sobs in her bed with Sandy, Thomas and Tiffany sit on the porch with their parents, overhearing on the radio that Dane Taylor was arrested and taken somewhere else for hard labor in another security jailhouse. As for David, he was pressed against charges for assaulting for a death plan of the dolphin, to get Felicity scared and kill the dolphin just to get her upset. Eventually, David was released and was sent home for insecurity bounds from publicity and women. Felicity and Thomas were married in the Spring of 1982, and Tiffany finally learned to control herself around David. When he finally was released from their house, David learned to be a family sociable man and be calm like the rest of them.
Narrator: Felicity and Thomas still worked with sea creatures and land animals, in dedication of Wilber's death, there was an incredible film produced called "Beach Escape" based on a true story, documentary by Dr. Mavis Douglas. When Felicity had a daughter, later in 1986, 27-year-old Felicity became the new manager of the Miami Zoo after her mother retired. 29-year-old Thomas was happy to really have a child, he couldn't ever loose. (DAD's girl) Dorothy Ann Douglas was a happy, red-haired, little Artistic-Adventurer. When 4-year-old Dorothy went to the animal inhabitants, Thomas and Felicity released many happy and healed animals, although they got to keep a tiger cub in their house located in the Zoo's expansion. It was a cabin mansion, and it seemed as if they lived in the rainforest. India was the tiger's name and eventually she would have to go too, they don't stay little and harmless forever. Tiffany learns to forgive David, but that doesn't mean they'll ever get married or have babies like little Dorothy. Or do they? Find out in the next adventure of "AMAZON ESCAPE".
(The End)
