The bell over the glass door leading into Granny's diner tinkled, signaling the arrival of a new patron. Several pairs of eyes turned to see who had found respite from the steady fall of snow outside. Regina shifted nervously from one foot to the other, the tip of her tongue darting out to lick her lips. Lips that were sans their usual crimson color. "Afternoon," she murmured, making her way toward the little table in the back where Snow was waiting for her. The eyes kept staring. Self conscientiously she reached up and smoothed a hand over her hair, grimacing when she felt a tangled mess on the back of her head. There was no way to comb through the knots without drawing more attention to herself.
"Sorry I'm late," she greeted as she shrugged out of her coat, draping it over the back of her chair. She unwound the Burberry scarf she'd thrown on to help keep the cold at bay. "I got a little distracted." Smiling, she dropped into the chair.
"Not to worry," Snow smiled in return, leaning forward to rest her arms on the table top. Her delicate nose twitched as she started sniffing the air. "Have you been in the woods?"
"In this weather? What kind of question is that?" Regina scoffed.
"Are you sure?" Snow tilted her head to the side, her gaze boring into Regina's.
"I think I would know if I had been in the woods." Shifting uncomfortably on her seat, Regina tried to avoid meeting her former step-daughter's curious look. "Really, Snow...the woods."
"You're right. Nobody in their right mind would venture into the woods in this weather. It's just..." Snow hesitated before leaning even closer, "you smell like the forest."
Regina felt her cheeks light up a brilliant cherry red. "I don't have the slightest idea what you are talking about."
A knowing look brightened in Snow's eyes after she took in the other woman's full appearance. Lips that were still swollen from kisses. A faint bit of red abrasion on her neck. The tangled hair. A smirk tweaked across Snow's lips. "I'm shocked," she giggled. Indignation drove Regina's chin up a fraction. "Oh don't look at me like that! I just meant I'm shocked you left Robin to meet me for tea!"
