Bullet Time

The knife flew through the air and planted itself in the SWAT member's head. Trinity rose from her fighting stance and gasped, 'Oh My God'. I knew, an Agent was there, watching us. I remembered what Morpheus had said; no one could survive an encounter with them. Surely not? How could they doge bullets? I had seen one before, for a brief moment when Morpheus had saved me by diving out the dry wall, they didn't seem too tough. I could handle it. I had two Berettas with full clips left, I could do it I spun on my heels and opened fire. The chambers rocked back and forth as my fingers danced on the triggers. Through the muzzle flashes I saw him, his shades, his suit, his bad haircut. Something was wrong though, he wasn't falling to the floor, I knew that in the Matrix my aim was perfect, I remembered my shots from the Lobby, accurate every time, but not this time. Instead of flying to the floor the Agent appeared to be doing a little dance, his feet rooted in the ground. His waist rocked back and forth, I couldn't see much through the bright flashes but I knew that he was doing it. He was dodging bullets.
The bullets flew past him, I could make out two of him, each moving differently round the same pivot. The shells clicked on the floor and I felt the chamber lock, I was out. I dropped the guns and swung my hands to my side, briefly glancing at Trinity, where was she? 'Trinity! Help!'. I yelled out, helplessly as he drew his gun. It was huge, from the thirty metres between us I could tell it was a Desert Eagle. It's chamber rocked back, the agent felt no recoil. Everything slowed down, I thought this was one of those, no chance, life-before-your-eyes moments, but this was different. I felt like I did have a chance, I didn't feel helpless. I had to act fast. I tossed myself back, avoiding the first bullet, I felt the air ripple behind it as my knees became my last legs. I swung my right arm round, the second bullet narrowly missing my shoulder. My hands grasped at the air. My left arm swung back as well, split seconds after the right, I couldn't believe it. I was dodging bullets!
My lapse of concentration cost me. My arms were too slow and the second and third bullets had ripped my clothes and the surface of my skin. I instantly, toppled onto my back and yelped in pain. The sun hurt my eyes and I could hear him coming closer. My leg screamed at me with pain and I squinted my eyes as he drew near. His body blocked out the sun so I could see him clearly, see him raise his gun and speak what I thought were the last words I'd hear.
'Only Human.'
