Here Comes the Sun
When Uchiha Sasuke awoke it was dark and quiet. He sat up, just sitting in bed and thinking. Slowly, his gaze moved towards the window, where the sun lay on the horizon. But to Uchiha Sasuke, the world was still very dark.
His eyes moved away from the window as he ground his palms into his eyes, until he saw spots. He knew that today would be no different from any other day. He knew that the sun would rise, and the darkness would evaporate. But for now, it was still very dark.
He rose from bed, and could almost hear the sounds of normalcy, memories, playing across the present day reality where they didn't belong. A creaking floorboard in the hallway, a gentle knock at his door, food sizzling in the kitchen. Things that had once made his world very bright.
He walked across the hall, a floorboard creaking across reality, an echo of his memories turned nightmare. He entered the bathroom, showering and getting dressed, actions which were routine and took no thought. He did this all in the dark.
He skipped breakfast, walking out of the house towards where Team 7 would be training that day. The shop owners he passed smiled and some greeted him; he merely nodded in return. It was clear that the worlds of the shop owners were very bright. But their light could not reach through Sasuke's darkness.
He was first at the training grounds as usual as he waited for Naruto, Kakashi, and Sakura. He knew that very soon the sun would be high in the sky. And so he sat in darkness, watching, waiting, for the familiar light.
Soon, a firefly came to try to break the gloom, before getting shoved out, as Sasuke waited for the real sun. The firefly was persistent however, so he let her hover there, babbling about things that Sasuke didn't care for.
"Hey, Sakura-chan! Hey Sasuke!" Sasuke's gaze jerked up abruptly as the orange clad genin raced toward them, eager for another day of training. Naruto smiled brightly, and Sasuke could feel the darkness around him evaporating, as he smiled mentally.
The sun had finally come up, and chased away the darkness.
