"Funny Business"

Before the War. Before the they went into hiding. Before one of them created a traitorous act. Before each of their deaths one by one. They were young, playful treatsters. James Potter, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, and Peter Pettigrew were friends. They loved to play "harmless" tricks on there fellow student Severus Snape. Enemies you can call them. Severus hated them for many reasons, too many to count. This, of course was what made it the most fun for these boys to mess with him.

It was mid November in their 6th year at Hogwarts. James was in the common room working on his Charms essay that was due the following day. As he was working, the portrait hole opened and in came James's closest friend, Sirius. He looked extremely angry about something as he walked over to James and sat down next to him. "I hate Severus Snape." He mumbled to himself.

James looked up from his essay. "What'd he do this time?" James asked

"He got me detention!" Sirius whispered angrily to James.

"How?" James asked putting his quill down to listen to Sirius

"Does it matter?"

While James and Sirius were talking about their hateful feelings towards Severus. Remus, another one of James' and Sirius' friends came down from his dorm room with several books in his arm. He sat down next to Sirius and across from James. "What's got you two so upset about?"

"Severus." Sirius said angrily

James started to explain what was going on with Sirius and Severus, when then Sirius cut him off. "I'm going to get him back."

"How?" James asked

"I don't know, maybe make his books fly out of his hands when he isn't looking or..-"

"Might have an idea."

Sirius turned his head to see their friend Peter standing behind them holding a spell book. He walked around the table and sat down next to Remus and James, passing the book over to Sirius.

"What's will this do Peter?"

"Turn to page 54." Peter smirked

Sirius turned to page 54, and smiled as he read. James and Remus looked over and started to laugh. "Great idea Peter." said James still laughing.

"Are sure this will work?" asked Remus as they all looked around the corner watching as Severus Snape walked down the hallway.

"I sure." answered Peter.

Sirius took his wand out of his robes and waited for Snape to get closer. As Snape approached them, not knowing what they were about to do to him, he turned the corner, Sirius pointing his wand at Snape and shouted a spell.

Suddenly Snape started to shrink and his skin a green, brown ugly color. They all laughed, they turned Snape into a toad. "Will it wear off?" asked James still laughing.

"Eventually." Said Peter.

James picked up the slimy toad that was Severus Snape. "Look at you, Snape you really let yourself go." He laughed.

"That's what you get for getting me detention." Sirius said.

They all laughed at Snape. As this was happening a young girl, around the same age as them walked around the corner. It was Lily, a fellow Gryffindor, and the girl James had a crush on, she was also good friends with Snape.

Quickly James handed Snape to Sirius, how just realized that Lily was walking towards them, he took the toad and hid it behind his back. Lily noticed them and walked over. "Hello James what are you all up too?" She asked with a smile.

"Oh um nothing…" James turned around to see that Remus, Sirius, and Peter were running back down the hall laughing. James couldn't tell whether they were laughing at Snape, still in Sirius hand, or at his own in embarrassment. He looked back at Lily.

"What are they laughing at?"

"Oh um n-nothing." James said turning red.

It was just some funny business.
