The ocean waves pounded down hard upon the shore, the white foam fading into the blue-green stained water. The sky was a mixture of blues, golds, and grays- and while some might shy away from the outdoors on a day like this, two demi-gods did not.
Annabeth finished laying the blanket out on the sandy beach, pulling the picnic basket onto it, and watched her boyfriend splash back towards her and out of the water. She grinned as he plopped down next her.
"Have you ever heard of the rules of the beach?" he asked, turning to face her, a mischievous smile forming on his face. Annabeth raised her eyebrows, concentrating in the task of making sure all the food was in there that they'd originally packed. "No," she said, trying not to crack her face of mock seriousness, and show that she was extremely amused, "I haven't."
"Well, you're about to!" Percy says. "Number one- leave no seagull unchased!" She looks up at this. "No seagull unchased?" He nods. "Yes. Seagulls are evil, sandwich and blue food stealing demons who deserve to be chased, Chase." Annabeth hits him on the arm. "I thought you were telling me the rules of the beach, not making name puns, Jackson."
Percy's grin widens, and he's on the verge of laughter, but he manages to hold it in. "Can't I do both?" She shoots him a glare, and he continues. "Number two- leave no person or friend unsplashed. Everyone you come with must be soaking wet at some point, and you get extra blue jelly bean points for the splash casualties on other random people."
Annabeth opens her mouth to say that she hopes this rule doesn't apply to her, but Percy goes on. "Rule three- leave no blue food uneaten, and if it gets stolen by seagulls, then we must go to war!" He looks very serious about this. "Rule four- sand castles are mandatory, and if you happen to have a super awesome architect girlfriend, all the better!" Annabeth is almost ready with a 'thank you' and a sarcastic comment, when he puts his arm around her, and smirks. Her insides start to melt.
"And, last but not least, rule five- leave no girlfriend unkissed." And with that, he kisses her, and she thinks that her insides aren't melting- no, they went a long time ago, and she's overcome by euphoria, and with an idea.
Breaking away for a second, and trying not to laugh at the confused look on her boyfriend's face, she opens a water bottle and splashes him. Percy's eyes widen, and then narrow, and she knows she's in trouble. "What happened to 'leave no friend unsplashed?'", and she thinks her voice just rose a level, and she's trying so hard to not giggle (since when did she do that in the first place?), and she stands up, and runs before he can get the last word in.
But it's the beach. And everything comes back to the water. Including Annabeth. Whether that's a good or bad thing, she doesn't know. But, maybe if she stops laughing, she'll be able to find out.
Disclaimer- I don't own Percy Jackson!
