It Doesn't Work Anymore?

I'm at breaking point. Connie's been on my back all day, and now Max.

He's tried to be sweet to me, and I have pushed away the person whom I've realized is the love of my life, away.

My shift has ended, and I walk to my car and get in.

Tears pour down my cheeks, I cannot stop them.

"Zoe? What's the matter?" It's Connie. Bloody hell.

I put my window down and Connie stoops to my level.

"What's the matter?" she asks, somewhat nervously.

"A whole lot of things." I hiccup.

"Well… Can I sit in your car and we can talk? Please?" she begs.

"Fine." I let her in.

"So… what's up?" she asks.

"Max." I snap.

"What? Why?"

I proceed to inform my boss about Max and I, something I thought I would never do, but at present she's the only person who will listen to me.

"I don't know why I'm telling you all this, you're meant to be the ice queen." I say.

"Ha ha." Comes the sarcastic answer.

"Go and tell him how you feel. Go on, I dare you." She tells me.

"Alright, only if you go and tell Caleb how you feel. I've seen the way you look at him and how he looks at you, call it a dare if you like" I reply before getting out of the car.

She gets out of my car too, and hurries off, looking rather worried and confused.

I wipe my eyes, and re-apply my make up.

Damn, I'd forgotten that my lighter's broken. Brilliant.

I spot one on the floor, and try to light it. no such luck.

I see another, and then another, and eventually a packet of matches, tied with a purple ribbon… Could it be? No, surely not…?

I spot Max.

"Anything to do with you?" I enquire, holding up the matchbox.

"Might be."

"You've gone to a lot of effort" I smile.

"Well, it was either this of wear a clown suit, so…"

"Dare I ask the occasion?" I say.

"You, it's always you." He shakes his head slightly.

"Max…"

He pulls a box out of his pocket. Oh heck.

"Oh God, oh.." I say, before being interrupted.

"It's not!" he assures me.

"Just… open it" he says.

I open the black box to reveal my silver lighter.

"See, I didn't re-light it, I just refuelled it" he grins.

"Welll… I guess some flames just aren't meant to go out" I smile, before he kisses me.

Our kiss becomes stronger, and I wrap my arms around him, before closing my eyes, savouring this moment.

"What am I going to do with you?" I ask.

"Well, I've made a list, er-" he's interrupted by me, I am not interested in his list at this precise moment in time, I'm interested in kissing him.

Our second kiss ends.

"Why is your makeup a bit smudged? And I know that's not me" Max asks.

"I was crying, Max. I was crying because of you, because I never thought I'd get a second chance." I admit.

"Well, you have and you've taken it, Spiderman." He smiles.

"I know, and I am damn lucky" I answer.

The End :-)
