Edward Elric stood in front of his commanding officer and lover Roy Mustang with a very angry expression that might have scared off anyone else (except for maybe Al or Riza), but Roy was used to Ed's death glares by now.
"We're not keeping that thing!" Edward yelled. Roy retaliated with "Well, we're not keeping that fuzzball, either!" They glared at each other, neither willing to back down. The kitten in Edward's arms and the dog in Roy's were looking around quizzically, probably wondering what all the fuss was about. In a rare moment, the two had gotten the same idea at the same time. They had each decided to surprise the other with a pet. The only problem was, Edward had no desire to own a dog and Roy disliked cats immensely. They set the animals down so they wouldn't get hurt in the impending fight. Roy reached for his ignition gloves and Edward transmuted his arm into that really cool blade.
"Edward, just take back the cat. We can't keep him." Roy tried to reason with the blonde.
"Yeah right, Colonel Useless! Take back that mutt to wherever you got him from!" They obviously were getting nowhere, and were getting ready to start battling over this when all of a sudden Roy laughed. Edward frowned deeper as he wondered what in the world could be funny at a time like this. Roy took off his gloves and pointed to behind the teen. Edward, still a little wary of the older man behind him, cautiously turned around and joined Roy in his laughter at the sight that met his eyes.
The small kitten and the full-grown dog had settled down on a nearby recliner and were currently using each other as pillows. It made for a very cute scene. Grinning ruefully, Edward returned his arm to normal and turned back to his lover. They both had the decency to look ashamed at themselves.
"Well" Roy said contritely "I guess if they can compromise, maybe we can too." Edward smiled and said by way of apology, "The dog is kinda nice." Edward moved towards the animals and reached out his left hand to pet the dog. The canine raised his head and leaned into Edward's touch.
"He's just like you are." Edward laughed, "I just have such an irresistible touch." Roy rolled his eyes and picked up the kitten, who immediately began to purr. With a sudden mischievous smirk, Roy set down the kitten and started petting Edward's head. Edward growled, "What do you think you're doing?" Roy's smirk widened and replied, "I didn't want you to feel left out." Edward yelled as he lunged at the raven-haired man, causing them to tumble over. As their wrestling gave way to more…interesting activities, the animals went back to sleep, bored with the two men's antics.
