Zoro held the crying babe in his arms. The child felt warm against his bare skin. He was such a beautiful baby, with big, brown eyes……….if only he would stop crying!

Carefully he brought the child up to his shoulder and began rocking it gently, back and forth, trying to stop the hideous sound from coming out of it's mouth.

As the boy finally began to calm himself, Zoro realised how truly vulnerable he was. Such a small person, unable to do anything for himself.

Zoro knew having a child was risky. It would always be at risk. Maybe from being kidnapped by one of their various enemies, or being 'saved' by the Marines.

The child in his arms blinked at him, then reached up to grab his father's finger. Zoro smiled. He had known the risk, but it was worth it.

The swordsman gave his infant a gentle hug. He loved his son more than life itself. He would protect him. That was one thing he was good at.

The boy began a series of gurgling noises that Zoro couldn't even attempt to understand. Smiling, he lay the baby down in the crib and covered him with the blanket.
This bond between us

He stood there for a while, watching his child drift off to sleep. He could hear the soft, rhythmic sound of gentle breathing.
"I'll always watch over you." He whispered.

Treading softly along the corridor, he made his way back to his bedroom. He stood in the doorway for a while, just looking at his wife sleep. Or, at least, he called her his wife. Technically they weren't married; there was no one who would marry such wanted criminals.
Why can't they understand

He slipped cautiously under the covers, trying not to wake her.
"You don't do stealth, do you?" She said wearily.
They just don't trust

Zoro bent over and kissed her on the forehead.
"I'm sorry for waking you." He whispered, wrapping his arms around her waist. And locked together in a humble embrace, they fell to sleep.
